he's a fine OD spinner....but the reason why he's successful in LO is why he never should have played tests for Australia

Amazing how after all the talk over the past 6 months we are still making basic errors, its hard to watch.
White said that he stuck with the seamers due to his gut feeling, but on no day is Johnson a death bowler. No matter how you are 'feeling'.

When was the last time White made runs? No chance of getting dropped though since he's captain
About the only player that could be skipper is Watson. None of the others are in nick (White hasn't been in form for ages but that appears to be a prerequisite for being made skipper) or experienced enough.

Haddin shouldn't even be in the team, I'll never understand why the only choice for the format appears to be either him or Paine.

Very fine innings from Dilshan though. Once his eye is in...

Well White wouldn't even bowl himself 5 years ago so it's hardly a shock he doesn't bowl other spinners
To be fair, he's just operating with what made Victoria a good T20 side. That was about three years ago, but we rarely used spin.

Don't remember, but in all fairness, he's a class act, take a leaf from the Pom's book and stick with your quality players.

Looking at Australia in the Warne era team and there was very little chopping and changing, but I guess that's what winning does for you.

No doubt Mitchell Johnson was leading the chatter, he's like a bad boxer, remember before the ashes?

He was just going to "storm in and sling it down" and take off those Pom's heads, yep, that worked well.

So sick of Johnson being crap. Has their been a match where he bowled bad and we have won anyway? Seems we lose every single match where he bowls like a turd.

Moments of brilliance, sustained periods of abysmal bowling, can't believe their not going to pick Bollinger.

He's unfit they say, after his melt down in Adelaide.

I posted earlier in the thread, the circumstances of his being unfit lay at both his and CA's feet. They let him stay (along with Hussey) for the T20 WC in SA, then flew them to India. He played in the first test and bowled ok, got injured day five with a side strain and was out for the series.

He came home, was right to play a Shield game before the Gabba test. CA told him not to, he said he was right to go for the Gabba but wasn't picked.

He then played one Shield match pre-Adelaide, and was picked, bowled badly, ran out of puff and was told he isn't fit enough.

Superb stuff all round.

There's 3 other bowlers who are allowed to pick up wickets as well you know.

I reckon that's why Johnson is so heavily criticised by Aussies though. We know that on his day he can win matches for us. But when it's not his day he bowls total crap. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that all the other bowlers we have tend to be crap as well. So when Johnson is having an off day, noone else is there to pick up the slack.

Biggest mistake was making Johnson the attack leader, tbh. He's just not going to be that guy who rocks up and lands the ball in threatening areas from ball 1. It's really quite interesting to watch how much tighter his bowling is when he's supporting someone like Lee. Mind you, he also needs the other bloke bowling well......

Australia have just backed the wrong horse, I reckon.

Barely did that iirc. Played the first couple of days and got told to get on another plane to Adelaide. He got through last summer fine, perhaps they need to accept some blame of their own? nah........

Shouldn't we ask then why no one else is picking up the slack first, then?
