they can afford to hit out because they can make up with their bowling if they lose their wicket cheaply. and if they are fast bowling all-rounders, they dont want to lose too much energy at the batting crease anyways. so their natural instinct is to belt the hell out of the cricket ball.

Sehwag has scored a double in each of the 3 major nations in SC. Show me another batsmen with such credentials. I rate Hobbs very very highly, but we are talking about SC where Hobbs never played. So picking him is as speculative as picking Bradman and Sobers in an all time ODI XI; in all probability they would've done well in ODIs but nearly no one picks them.

EDIT: Jayawardene also has a double in all three major nations of SC !

Sehwag is a almost must pick in the SC. Infact would have him infront of Gavaskar playing in the SC too probably.

If we can have some data on that it might be more useful Since a SC XI will be facing a top notch XI from some other place I am not sure how well Sehwag would do against them.

Also what you have to remember is the pace at which he scores is almost double of any other batsman who is in comparison which not only makes it easier for the Batsman at the other end taking pressure of them, it also puts pressure on the bowlers straight up and gets them to bowl differently.
The new ball does less in the SC so he also makes sure that the runs are up on the board before it begins to reverse, or get soft or turn.

Got hundreds against attacks led by McGrath, Pollock, Steyn and Akhtar. Couldn't have done much more than that. His hundred against SA in Nagpur was against a red hot Steyn on a pitch that assisted pace bowlers.

His couple of Knocks in Srilanka against a still a new Mendis(who was doing well),Vaas and Murali were pretty special too on pitches that assisted the bowlers. Specially that double hundred at Galle.
