Just put Mukund in at 6 if it is a Bouncy and quick pitch. As i said,it will help deal with the second new ball too.
Or if Sehwag is not close to fully ready then playing him at 6 won't be the worst Idea too.

On quicker tracks where there is bounce Raina has been a walking wicket every time in his career so far. He'll do fine on less bouncier and slower surfaces though.
From a squad perspective, India have landed in England with this line-up and now they have to back them. Shuffling blokes around to plug leaks never works (something about deckchairs and the Titanic comes to mind), especially since Mukund is not much better against the short ones than Raina anyway. Also, if Sehwag isn't ready to play as an opener, he isn't ready to play in my view.

Assess Raina after the series, I reckon. He had a decent tour of the WI and has managed a half century this series. Deserves a decent run especially since the likely replacements aren't obviously better picks.

Newspapers in Mumbai questioning why Rohit Sharma wasn't sent in as replacement instead of Kohli.

Err? Yes he is.

And it is only one position anyway.

He does have a sound temperament, but it looks to me as though his problems against the short ball are becoming as much mental as technical. He's started to actively fear being shown up by bouncers, so he tries to put them away every time, and keeps mucking up his hooks as a result.
Yeah, for one test.

Think a bit too much is being made of it personally. It was only a week ago that people were talking about how much his play against the short ball had improved after his knock at Lord's. If India had won the match it wouldn't have been mentioned.

It's a potential area for concern if he fails in the next match or two but at this stage it's not really a sufficient reason for dropping the guy.

Amit Mishra on 61* now. Very promising stuff. He will be expected to bat at eight and I was initially skeptical about his ability to do that. Now all eyes on the bowling. Hope to see Munaf and Zaheer do well.

Tbf he does average about 70 in FC cricket recently doesn't he?
And Badrinath averaged 130 last season. He has been overlooked based on stupid ****ing ODI'S.
Mumbai newspapers can moan later. As it is Rohit was lucky to get enough chances in ODI's to get some form ahead of the likes of Rahane.

It's not a new problem though.

Predicted it before the series that he will do decently at Lords and Oval but will struggle at Trent Bridge and Edgbaston. When the pitch is seaming, Bouncy and quick he is as good as a dead duck. Same was the case in South Africa too.

Maybe the pitch in Edgbastong may be slower but if it is not, more of the same will happen.

If you go through the first class records of the Northamptonshire team currently playing, you will find that any performance against this team is not worthy to talk about, in international terms.

Yeah, it's very disappointing from Northants really, didn't expect Vaas to play, but you'd have thought Brooks might have wanted a go. He must be well down the selectors list, and a big performance against the tourists may have pushed him up a bit. Baatting line-ups not too bad though, just bad.

Batting lineup's not far from the Championship side, but they're still without their favoured opening pair, and most of Northants' runs this season have come from Hall, Vaas, and Middlebrook anyway.

It'll be more questions of India if they even let Northants get close to them, really.

Just saw India have 3 warm up OD matches against decent sides. While they couldn't even arrange a 3 day Warm up FC match with someone like the Lions or a decent side which can play it's full strength team?

So very close to throwing it all away with India. Cannot be bothered to put up with their ****ness.

I think Khan must be injured if he only got 3 overs. It isn't as if this is a match that any side have a chance of winning but just match practice for India. Even if Khan goes at 10 an over he needs to get overs under his belt.
