Do England have the best tail ever to play in any test?

just picked a random scorecard from Klusener's early career - HowSTAT! Match Scorecard

so yeah

edit probably not the best example actually. but oh wellz
Not sure how many times this has occurred but Pat Symcox, who batted 11 that game had a better test batting average (28.50) than Adam Bacher, who opened. Dave Richardson is batting awfully high in that scorecard as well; ideally he would be batting 11. Scary, scary tail but fairly weak top order.

Oh. An 8,9,10,11 of Cairns, Nash, Harris and Vettori is surely a step up from Bresnan, Broad, Swann, Anderson.

Bresnan maybe about as good as Cairns, Broad superior to Nash, but Harris and Vettori (even 1999 Vettori) miles ahead of Swann & Anderson.

1999 Vettori still had a test batting average of 23 while for me Cairns was different class to Bres.

Useful performance from an England tail in this Test - it was a dead rubber of course, but WIndies had dominated the series and it was no pop gun attack they were facing

Never. Can compare the bowling, but not the batting.
I'd much prefer to watch Chris Cairns, and he has the greater overall first class record, but it's hard to play down Bresnan's effectiveness in his role in test cricket so far. Cairns was the better bowler when fit, or at least more likely to bag you a hatful of wickets.

One for a couple of threads but Tom Graveney was interviewed by Sky and he said that it was the best tail in cricket history and this is the best England team since 1953, not quite as good as them yet though but ahead of any other England side since. Seeing as he has seen more than most of us on here he obviously knows what he is on about.

Our tail is strong when the foundations are set already. If Bresnan is counted in this debate then in my opinion we have the best batting depth. If you take our second innings against the Indians, we were going strong and after Bell, Morgan, Pieterson and Prior scored runs we were in the position to take momentum and attack the Indian bowlers. Having a medium pacer to bowl that many overs was the sad thing and we have attacking players near the end. Not just people who hit two sixes in one over and get out soon after but players who can play an effective innings like Broad, Bresnan and Swann when he's at his best
