Could take out mid off or mid on and move him to third man, encourage them to drive through the gap with the catchers all in. It is what i'd try anyway. Yes you may leak a few runs through mid off/mid onbut you'd probably save more than you leak down at third man.
Yeah that's one thing to try for while, for sure. Would argue you'd have to be well on top to do so, though. When you're not but the pitch is still doing a bit, you need to find that compromise between having some catchers in case of an awkward ball and some protection for the bowlers. 3rd man is the obvious one to come out in those circumstances.

I know people are highlighting that both England and India not having a 3rd man but when the ball's doing a bit, the focus is more on having catchers rather than saving runs especially when you'd usually asume scores will be lower anyway. Can't cover absolutely all possibilities and on a pitch like this, a wicket could come at any time. It'd be a bigger crime if the guy who would have been in a catching position was boundary-riding instead.
The ball isn't doing a bit. Unless you're going to bowl a very unorthodox line, third man to Ian Bell just isn't optional.

Ganguly "Sreesanth continuing his habit to ball well to the South Africans"

Sresanth's wickets this match -

Pietersen, Trott, Prior, Strauss and Pietersen again.

Disagree, enough balls doing something for the bowlers to be interested. India are just **** right now.

Shame about KP going but that partnership has changed the game in our favour. Now time for Morgan to prove he can play at this level before Prior and co take the game away from India completely.

Further to this, not having a 3rd man unless absolutely necessary signals to the opposition you're doing something, that you're active in the match. Throwing some poor sap down there all day on anything other than the flattest of decks sends a bad message to the opposition. Whether true or not, if I was out there batting, I'd think the opposition were more interested in stopping me from scoring than getting me out and there's no need to send that message in England, especially with far less than 400 on the board.

Well they've got a third man, and no slips now to Bell. Hope Ian nicks one through first slip.
