Again, why is "tactics" such a dirty word?

Even if HotSpot is flawed, we are still better off using it than not.
Even if Hawk-eye is flawed, we are still better off using it than not.

England might think that HotSpot is flawed when it comes to the finest of edges, but they know that it will definitely come in handy when some horrible umpire misses a fine, but not too fine, edge.

None of this negates the fact that he's a condescending prick when it comes to India and always has been.

How so? He made one point about India not wanting to use the UDRS and many other people actually agree with this particular point. Nasser has always been very complimentry towards Indian players, especially the likes of Tendulkar and Laxman.

Average commentator, I agree, but a prick? Please.

If Nasser is a prick, then so is Shastri. I've never heard anyobdy say a positive thing about Shastri, apart from commenting on his playing achievements.

I can understand the BCCI's reservations against the predictive path of Hawk Eye and the accuracy of hot spot. But it is surprising to me how many of these poor decisions could be completely eliminated by just using the television replay. I suspect, with 90% of decisions that are wrong, you can tell from just the replay whether there is inside edge or whether it pitched in line with the stumps. This is really what they system was set up to do - eliminate the howlers. How many people could not ascertain a plumb lbw that isnt given from just the television replay?

Think about it a little. No hawk eye, no hot spot, no snicko and no need to fork up any additional costs as it is essentially the same process that we use for run out referrals at the moment. And yet we aren't using that!
Boggles the mind, doesn't it?
I advocated this and got laughed at by marcusssssss :(

Guys, the UDRS chat is pretty interesting, but we have threads for it and some posters have been getting annoyed about it in the past few days. The odd convo about it is fine but if it's going to be a running thing post it in the UDRS threads dotted around. That way more people will see and participate as well.:)

PS. Whilst it's all well and good to keep up natural conversation threads and obviously this one is, we have threads to talk about UDRS :)

EDIT: Beaten by Flem, that's a first

Just want to note, for those who decried Bradman's achievements in a certain other thread with a "vs" in it because of where the keeper stood in the clips of him batting, that MS Dhoni is currently standing up to the stumps for India's opening bowler.

England effectively 63/2. Great session, and I reckon you'd just about rather be us now. So close, though.

Brilliant batting by Bell, it's been a one man show this morning.

A wrong decision is still a wrong decision.
I know it is ideal to have correct decisions 100% of the time, but things become a bit clouded when you take the 'umpires call' feature in to consideration and also the fact that hotspot is not 100% accurate.

Who the frigg said that?

I know Bell has been quality since his recall, but this innings is a far cry from the floppy flaky sod who toured here in 2008.

Our session totally and possibly our best of the match because instead of keeping us in the match by the skin of our teeth that one has put us back on level terms and the game is brilliantly poised now.

Bell has been simply brilliant, anything Dravid can do he has done better today. KP has done excellently too by just nudging singles and playing the match situation instead of his own ego as he is prone to do so often.

More of the same after lunch please boys, been great to watch even if India have bowled dross for most of the session. Harby finding it as difficult as Swann did, who'd have thought it.

Dravid was playing against far better bowlers though.

They're actually not. England 1.94, India 3.3 as we speak.
Crikey, England one collapse away from defeat though and on this track it can happen. I'd have had it about level at present. This partnership is crucial for both sides, if they bat another hour or so England are on top but India break it early after lunch and Morgan comes in under pressure and 1 brings 2 as they say.
