Is good eye sight extinct? Because those delivering weren't just clipping off, they were CLEANLY hitting the bails. Big difference.

No, it's not fair because 1) it was out and 2) it looked plumb live.
Go educate yourself on how DRS works.

Disappointed I went to bed before Broad caught fire, would have like to have seen his hattrick. I guess the highlights will cover it at some stage, but it's a super effort.

EDIT: Disappointed to miss 'Swanneh' getting smashed too...especially the stump destroying. Must've been worse than when he got taken to in Australia.

whatever. He won't get a single 80+ score this series. avatar bet? 2 weeks?

wow just found out that Broad got a hattrick?
he's single handedly keeping england in the game.

and dravid has to be the best player in english conditions.
scored 3 tons in 2002 tour
2 already this time... amazing (avg of 70+)
imagine if he had been an english...
It's irrelevant whether he has one bad series - your argument is invalid. A batsman who was ranked #1 in the world a month ago clearly does not lose everything and become non-Test class in the span of a month unless he has had some serious injuries. And if he is on a terminal decline, three innings does not imply anything of the sort.

he was no.1 in Dec/start of Jan!!

It's been 8 months since then!!

did you not see how poor he was in the ipl too (after the first few games).
seems to have lost his temperament.
N Hussain was saying that tendulkar even had a poor nets session before start of day 2.
plus, tendulkar's one guy who relies HEAVILY on practice!! when he's struggling in nets session, well it's almost game over for him.

he looked ordinary against a 70-80% fit tremlett at lords, so i doubt he'll even get a 50 in the next two tests with fully fit tremlett returning to the english side.

Btw just because kallis is no.1 in the rakings right now, doesn't mean he'll be in good form when he plays his next test in october/november.
rankings don't mean ****, when you don't play for so long.

just did some research- (this may be contributing to his failures)

Took him a while to go past bradman's 29th test100
was stuck on it for a while, even got out for a 90 odd at trent bridge before he finally got the 30th.

same thing happened when he needed just 1 more to break gavaskar's world record.
took him like 1 year to get the 35th test hundred (even this time he narrowly missed out when he got in the 90s against pakistan at mohali)

Used up the whole series against blackcaps last year trying to get the 50th test 100, but failed.

In the world cup he had 5 opportunities to get the 100th 100 but he kept choking after a brilliant start to the world cup. (fell 15 runs short in the semifinal)
and now look whats happening to him in England.

basically this milestone hunt will **** him up even more. it's weighing him down

Second day in a row I've woken up to see news lauding Stuart Broad's individual efforts. Good lad.

I haven't been in the country for a while, so this is the first real time I've had to follow this series as closely as I would like. It's good to see the familiar faces in here and catching up by reading very thoughtful and entertaining posts, thanks guys!

Umm, did you not watch England's batting? Plenty of good lbw shouts were turned down against India.
Yes, they were good shouts, but they were turned down for reasons such as not hitting the stumps (a bit like the Cook one in fact which was given)

If umpires turning down shouts like them on the technicality of them not actually being out is a crime against India it suggests some much darker forces are at play here.

Perfect hat trick in cricket, tbf, is all three batsmen being out.

McGrath's was incredible. All caught, but three top order players, taken apart by three different balls perfectly executed.

As for the question, I think Gough's hat trick at Sydney may have been caught, lb and bowled. But I'm not sure.

I should remember, I was there.
Nah. Gough bowled both Miller and MacGill.

Peter Siddle's hattrick was caught, bowled, lbw, I don't necessarily think getting 3 different types of dismissals are better.

Missed the hattrick. Had fallen asleep on the couch after work. Devastating.

But seriously, what is with Englands catching? Some fairly easy chances are being shelled in the cordon

Wow, Broad. Was not aware he could raise his game from Lord's but by god he has. Still suffering the ill-effects of other people's incompetence, though (on balance)

Dravid, legend. What more to say?

I thought your first post was a bit of joke but you are serious about this...
Sachin will eventually come good.... he will get at least one hundred in this series.. just hope he gets it while the series is still alive...
Feels like India's only got 2 batsman at the moment... Dravid and Laxman..

For sure the pitch did ease out. Can;t help but feel though that in a series as tight as this and that (ordinarily) our fielding and running between the wickets are superior to India and this could provide a priceless advantage over the course of the series.
Indian ground fielding might not be good but slip catchers are pretty good though.. while England have dropped some dollies.

Now that i'm over the shock... that was some wonderful bowling by Broad... Finally some luck went his way...... don't like the **** because is poor behaviour but he is pretty good cricketer.

Bowled a lot of short balls, all were put away for 4. Dravid, despite 1 bottom edge between the keepers legs, also dispatched anything that was wide or too full either, was brilliant play and left him no margin for error. The joy was slightly nullified by comments about 'another spinner killed by the indians' coming thick and fast.

Psst... Re. Swann...

He ain't that great.

He's by no means awful and is a good bowler, but he's a stock standard offie with an arm ball. But the level of hype around him is crazy.

Generally has one big innings with the ball per series tho, and it may be the second dig here.
Totally agree with this...he does a good job in situations where he should help the team get home (i.e: in the last innings on pitches that suit him a bit) but is not as good as a number of people are making him out to be. He's just a decent off-spinner.

We'd obviously take him in the Aussie team at the moment, but a lack of good spinners around doesn't make him anything more than decent still.

Edit: Found it interesting that someone mentioned Broad saying he found it difficult to pitch the ball up with no cover in place...thought that'd be an ideal time to pitch it up, at least on a good length. The way he's been going in this series though it doesn't seem to hamper his efforts too much. If he keeps it up I'll be forced to admit he's a good all-rounder
