*Official* Second Test at Trent Bridge

Looks like they're not going to risk Tremmers, the ECB have just released a press release, saying that Steven Finn has been called up to the England squad as bowling cover.

Norwood's on Fire
Dunno if it necessarily means that. I think it's a case of, if Tremlett can't play, they want a couple of options available.

I hope they go for Brezza over Finn if Tremmers is out though.

So who should India go for?

Sree or Munaf given the photos which have been circulating of Sree.

I would go for Sreesanth as he is a attacking swing bowler and could be effective at TrentBridge, but interesting choice if he really is unfit.
Please please please pick Sreesanth.

I heard suggestion on the radio yesterday that Broad was carrying a minor niggle too, so I think it's wise to have someone else up there.

In order gives a slightly fairer picture:

Trott > Tendulkar
KP < Dravid
Cook < Gambhir
Bell = Laxman
Prior > Dhoni
Strauss > Raina
Morgan > Mukund

With Trott a bit of a samplesizelol, India have the better of the top players but England the better depth. As, of course, we already knew.
What're the totals?

yeah, he's a better and more attacking option. there will be a result at tb so not point in picking a bowler who won't do anything execpt keep the run-rate down- must pick 20 wickets!!!

plus sreesanth's got rid of excess fat it seems-

I'd go with Bresnan really- with Finn yes he is a good prospect and can get wickets, but can also get it wrong- Bresnan on the other hand bowled economically in the subcontinent (albeit Bangladesh) and Australia. Finn's probably the bigger risk- may be less economical and given India are behind the 8ball and need to chase the series, and as such pressure delivered consistently is good. As for India, I'd suggest Sreesanth over Munaf Patel- he can on his day produce some cracking spells.

Yeah, but it's still irrelevant. The fact that Anderson didn't swing it too much was one of the things that made him so brilliant.

Steyn's performance over there was special btw. But you came up with pissweak logic for why it was better. There's plenty of decent arguments that could be made either way, but you didn't make one
nooooooo I didn't initiate this quality comparison- effectiveness is what matters.

As I have already mentioned- Since steyn's the most destructive bowler ever, he's comfortably ahead of anyone.

his sr of 43 in aus was nothing short of extraordinary.

Whilst I think Steyn's the better bowler, I don't think Jimmy's (relative) lack of pace or lack of swing in the Ashes should count against him.

While I think Anderson is a great bowler, Steyn is perhaps the best pace bowler since McGrath so yeah he'd edge it I think. My main memory of watching Steyn was him vs Collingwood in that duel on the last day Cape Town 2010- that passage of play was fantastic, how Steyn didn't get a breakthrough and then probably off the back of that would have got more wickets still I don't know.

Going to be catching a train from London to Nottingham to watch day 1 of the Trent Bridge test tomorrow. :)

Not sure what I'll do if I see Yuvraj opening. Will be very weird.

Pleased with the news Finn is in instead of Bresnan (that is correct right) from an Indian POV but atm if India do not win the toss I don't see us winning this match, whereas if Eng do not win the toss they still have a good shot of winning.

Wonder if Finn's 5fer this afternoon had anything to do with being called up. Hope he plays.

There's been no news saying Finn's in instead of Bresnan. Finn's just been added to the squad. If Tremlett doesn't play tomorrow, it look likely Bresnan comes in and Finn's 12th man but we'll find out in the morning.

Both are having good seasons with the ball but I'd pick Bresnan for TB, personally.

slotting in yuvraj as an opener would be a disaster (might as well play another bowler if gambhir is ruled out)

Mukund
Dravid
lax
sach
raina
Yuvraj
dhoni
Harby
praveen
Ishant
sree

makes the middle order weak though
