*Official* Second Test at Trent Bridge

England don't need 5 bowlers IMO.
Not everytime would the India batting line-up be rolled over for under 300. The opposition bowling is the weak link. Six batsmen and Broad should be enough to stack on the runs, given that Zaheer wouldn't play.

If I were the English captain/selector, I'd want to kill the opposition at Nottingham and give myself the best chance to pick 20 wickets. Green surface and favourable conditions for swing would mean that Anderson-Tremlett-Bresnan-Broad is the best bet. Swann more in a supporting role.

No they wouldn't.
IMO, Yes they would.

It's not like every batsman in London would be all and up and ready to go with cricket gear and all in the morning of the match.

Secondly from Northwest London(Say Uxbridge) to Lords would take about 40 to 50 minutes even with the Underground transit iirc.
In any case it's not like he would be in ideal condition to bat straightaway.

Would love to see a green surface in Trent Bridge. Probably the only way for Indian bowlers to take 20 wickets and hope batsmen to put up a much better show. England looks absolutely brilliant with the bowling line up specially after Broad has come back to form. Possibly, the best attack in the world.

Would be interesting what would happen if say Cook were to get injured on the morning of the match?

Happened to India against SA at home where first one batsman got injured 1/2 day before the match(Laxman?) and then his replacement Rohit Sharma got injured in the morning of the match. Ended up having to play Saha as a specialist batsman.
Even if it's a complete last minute crisis we can have Trott open, shift the rest of the batting order up, and that leaves us with a 678 or Prior, Bresnan, Broad. Not a big problem really.

He's in Mumbai. Fit as hell and ready to fire. If they want him to, that is!
I have advocated picking him for this tour for a long while now. Should have been in the squad ,but now that he isn't he won't reach England tomorrow and be ready to play day after.

How do you know he is in Mumbai, btw?

Irfan Pathan seems to have been a great example of how much better you become in the eyes of many if you aren't playing in the last few weeks.

He had his limitations for sure, but if there was one place where he would be at his best it would be England with his type of Swing which was even Different to Praveen Swinging it from his hand.

Plus he could add with the bat too. Rattled any opposition when it was swinging ,IMO.

Yeah, a bit of a short notice. But has been done in the past with a few other players. He's the one missing link in the team. Has his bowling rhythm back and can score useful runs. And he's not a ball-thrasher; guys's actually got a sound technique to play against movement, bounce and turn.

With Dhoni's poor form, the batting seems to be too fragile. Steyn-Morkel, the Englishmen and other good attacks would not leave that chink unexploited.

I still have mates in the Baroda cricket circuit. We keep each other informed on stuff. Irfan does expect a recall into the national team soon.

Yeah, those numbers aren't just bad, they're ****ing terrible - if he's the great hope to save India then they're so far up **** creek without a paddle that it's a joke for them to have the number 1 by their name.

Whatever it takes!!!
Should really be a cakewalk for England, the next test. India are out of it, the pitch tends to swing a bit apparently and our game breaking batsman and bowler are out. Not sure how fit Gambhir and Sachin are, as well.. Can see a whooping coming up. Ah well, better to England than to Australia :)

Not that I disagree with the sentiment, and I know I am just nitpicking, but being #1 simply means the guys who played did that well.. It is really not indicative of the bench strength, right?

I have seen you mention Baroda cricket a few times now. Were you connected with it in some way?

He isn't a bad player, actually has a far better record than some of the bowlers on the tour.

When you consider he has over 1000 runs @ 31.57 and 100 wickets @ 32.26 in his 29 tests then he would be ideal for this team to bat at 7 pushing Dhoni up to 6 and making India able to play 5 bowlers meaning they can take a chance on Zaheer and bowl him more sparingly and he may stay fitter and win them more matches.

Can see Fletcher pushing hard for him to be included in future once this tour is over provided he doesn't get sacked if India lose their number 1 status of course.
