I don't know if anyone saw today's Cricket Writers on TV, but Richard Hobson of The Times had an interesting theory about KP. His idea was that Pietersen, when he first arrived in England colours, was driven by his desire to prove himself and be accepted on his own terms. Everything about him screamed his otherness: his accent, his skunk haircut, his bling & his forcing shots from the front foot.

Now he is accepted and we have other players with his un-English brashness (Swann and Broad the obvious examples) he doesn't have the same motivation to prove his worth or that he belongs.

Not sure I agree as KP's downturn seems to dovetail with his ultimate rejection by the establishment after he got the arse from the captaincy, but an interesting idea anyway.

I think his downturn coincided more after his injury when he missed most of Ashes 2009 and then came back in SA. IIRC he had a decent series in WI.

yeah coz arseholes like you need some counterbalance in this forum

prince ews,

pretty clear when majority people root for a guy who's been **** for last two years, more than rationalism is at work there. nobody's discounting the need for a poll, but I can ****ing draw my conclusions from that, can't I?

But you're the one who put the poll up, so you obviously thought it wasn't clear cut. You can't put up a poll and then whinge when people vote for an option you think is invalid if you're the one who put the options up. It just screams of a set-up. Your conclusion only holds any water in a universe where everyone knows your cricketing opinions are automatically right no matter what.

sir two things,

I have a right to moan about people who disagree with me, that's the purpose of the forum isnt it?? by moan I mean disagreeing and counterarguing.

secondly, I am not saying that the results are invalid or fabricated. they carry equal value to any other poll here. but it reflects a certain element of bias beyond appreciation of his contribution in the last two years. and I think i've a right to point that out.

Nah, you're being ridiculous. The whole thread from the start has just been an elaborate troll - and I should clarify by saying that I'm not calling you a troll as a member, but instead playing the posts here and saying that this thread has been a troll from the start.

Not only do you think there's only one right answer, but you think that anyone who disagrees with you is automatically biased or illogical in some way. Now we all have our topics in which we hold beliefs as strong as that (for example, I think anyone who believes the human eye is better placed to adjudge lbws than tracking technology to be deluded at best), but it's the height of arrogance to then start a poll on the matter and use the results not to help you form your opinion on the topic, but to help you go on a crusade about how people have biased agendas. Frankly, that's terrible foruming. If the poll went the other way, you would've just used it as evidence to support your opinion, but because it went the way it did, you've decided to just use it as "evidence" of the majority of the forum having a deep-seated biased agenda and you've ranted about that. Of course, anyone who disagrees with you knows deep down that you're right - because you always are - but has an agenda of some sort. What's the point of a poll if you don't think anyone can logically come up with anything but one answer?

Basically my point is that if you hold an opinion so strong on something - and we all have our topics where we do - that if anyone disagrees with you, you automatically assume they're biased, have an agenda or are ********, then you have no right creating a poll on it and listing what you believe to be an entirely invalid option that couldn't be reached through logical thought. We're all allowed to disagree here, but you've gone a step further and basically insinuated that no-one actually disagrees at all and those who claim to are just biased or insane - I think that about some topics too, but I don't start polls and list options I feel invalid, like you have here, as I know the poll results will mean nothing to me. The poll function isn't here for you to use a personal agenda-tester to fuel your hypocritical rants.

lol, made u type out a whole essay in indignation, purpose achieved

ftr, I don't think I have ever called anyone ******** for not agreeing with me, don,t you paint me withat brush.

calling someone biased isn't discounting their opinions. I have full respect for all who cared to post here, but is it a crime I don't agree with them?

You've done a lot more than just disagree with them though.

By posting this:

this thread is gold std why polls should be taken with a pinch of salt.
and this:

but it reflects a certain element of bias beyond appreciation of his contribution in the last two years.

... you've pointed out that not only do you disagree with them, but that you find their entire position completely illogical and one unable to reach rationally. You can't pull that **** when you're the one who created created the poll in the first place. When you create a poll, you admit all options to be valid, standalone opinions, even if you disagree with them strongly - you can't then invalidate your own poll options by saying one or more of them can't be achieved rationally. That just makes the entire thing pointless if not a massive troll.

What if he created the poll with the options "Yes", "Of course!", "Absolutely" etc.?

He should have if he thought they were the only possible rational responses.

You can disagree with someone about something without thinking the opinion is so irrational that they must have some bias or agenda behind their thinking. I don't actually take issue with his opinion on this at all - what I do take issue with is that he's created a poll and then tried to invalidate one of his own poll options by saying it can't be achieved rationally. That's absolute bull****.
