There's Stuart Meaker down at Surrey...oh, wait....

TBF to Dernbach he's done ok today and I don't think it's a travesty he's keeping anyone else out of the team just now. I don't think Tremmers or Finn are limited overs bowlers.
It's not like he is either, though. Going at over 6rpo in county cricket across your career isn't a great advertisement for your one day skills.

You're right in that there isn't a bowler in the wings knocking down the door to play one day cricket for England, but I think England are a batsman light. It's one thing having Bresnan bat 7 if you're doing it to get five quality bowlers into the team but is the difference between Dernbach's bowling and Patel's really worth the long tail?

Rain due to come in this evening. The more time we lose, the more D/L tends to favour the chasing side, I find.

Be pissed off with it if it's called off now though.

Exceptionally poor performance with the bat and reeking of overconfidence and complacency. I can only hope the bowlers do well but 174 isn't enough to defend. The game is lost bar something exceptional.

I'd usually play the extra seamer at Trent Bridge, depsite the irony of it being the home ground of both of our spinners.

I think we do miss a batting all-rounder now Colly seems to have be disgarded, but until Ben Stokes or Lewis Gregory are ready, the only quasi serious seam option is probably Luke Wright. Trego's bowling would be destroyed at international level and Mascarenhas has had a go and been found wanting and is probably a bowling all-rounder in any event.

Bloody hell looks like Cook has a meal booked for 9 the way he has started.

Hope we get the game finished before the rain and level it up to set up a final in the last game.

I thought our guys were beaten by really good bowling. Either our bowling or the pitch seems really flat right now.

That Cook's such a rubbish one-day batsman, eh?
Terrible.

I am happy with him in the side as an anchor man, not sure you can have him, Trott and Bell in the same top 6 long term but we need a solid opener and who better than the biggest run machine of the last 10 months.

They should award the game to england even if it rains off at this point, it looks like a done deal to me.

While Sri Lanka has been thoroughly out played the pitch seemed a little unfair to me. ODI pitches have to be consistent across two sessions. This pitch was doing a 180 in a manner of 3 hours. The toss pretty much sealed game for SL. Although england may have done better than us had they batted first.

Nonsense. The pitch looked flat as the proverbial breakfast when Sangakkara and Mathews were batting, and besides, which SL batsmen got out to demons in the pitch? Complaining about England having good swing bowlers in England is like complaining Sri Lanka have good spinners in Sri Lanka. And I bet you weren't doing in the World Cup QF. Deal with it.

The pitch dried up pretty quickly. It was swinging & seaming seriously in the first 15 or so overs. There is no denying that.

And I seriously don't see how you got the idea that i was complaining about england having better bowlers.

Only two overs left, England chasing 171.

Remember when SA were 55/0 chasing 171 in Chennai?

I was pointing out that the one-sided nature in this match comes from England using the swinging conditions far better. And that it has sod all to do with the pitch. There is a difference between swing and seam, and the former does not rely on the pitch.
