Was Nasser commentating? He hates players focusing on milestones and stats over the team objective. Bollocked Thorpe during his (Nasser's) final Test for blocking plenty so there were enough runs for Nas to go to a hundred.
Yeah.... was unbearable..

They must have been reading this site, that site posted above, has even a article on Bumble and the whole ordinary bowler thing. Just reads as some anti England rant, I especially cringed at the article, called 'Arrogance, Cowardice or Lethargy ?' apparently it was about the test series

I think the fact that Dilshan, Sangakkara and Stuie Law were all apopleptic at Mathews has been slightly glossed over. The SL leadership group was so perturbed by it the 12th man was sent on with what one presumes was a message to get the **** on with it.

The fact is we were dead in the water and Mathews dead-batting a maiden gave us a sniff. It was unprofessional.

its say about the test match :)
Who said it wasn't? just pointing out that he put personal glory over team success and is now having a go at the opposition when the opposition went for personal glory + team success. He should be disgusted with himself first.

professional's job is to win it.

he did it.

end of.
Nah, that is a very unintelligent way of viewing any situation.

Coaching and analysis is based around how they get there, not where they end up, because next time they might not be so lucky.

What if one of our bowlers had suddenly produced a hat-trick? Highly unlikely of course, but why risk it?

No harm done, but there was no harm done when my daughter ran into the road without looking to check for traffic. Her objective was to get to the other side of the road, so I don't need to have a go, do I?

The problem with this criticism of Matthews & Chandimal is made moot by the fact that england wasn't even trying to get a wicket at that point in the game. They had given up. For england to get a hatrick SL would have had to gift wickets.

I'm not that fussed that they did it, but if I was the coach, I wouldn't be best pleased.

Nah, that's bollox. No team should give the oppo a sniff when there's no need to in pursuit of a personal milestone. You apply the boot to the throat.
sri lanka didn't. just because the required rate went up from 2.5 to 3, doesn't mean they gave England a chance to come back. In the end, they won most comfortably and convincingly, that's professionalism. In fact, it was so professional a rout that they could actually manage to toy the bowling around to sneak in some personal milestones as well.

England's moan was like a prisoner on death row asking to be given cyanide instead of the gallows.

every match is a completely different beast imho.

ultimate aim of every coaching and all player moves is to facilitate a win. The more facile it looks, the better.

Sri lanka were cantering to a comfortable win, they decided to pursue some personal glory also in that, and in the end achieved both goals, an easy victory and personal milestones.

so it was more comprehensive a win as compared to what it could've been otherwise.

A win with 20 deliveries remaining and another with 10 remaining are virtually indistinguishable in the final analysis. But a century thrown in there for a deserving upcoming batsman, changes things quite for the better.

What would Cook's next moan be? that sri lanka should.ve been more professional and won without losing any wickets??

he should just accept the drubbing and concentrate on giving the lankans a fight in the next game, than commentate upon how they played.

Of course each game is different but what's your point? I'm not bothered by what SL do but if I was a supporter of theirs I wouldn't have been happy about it. And the coach isn't happy because it was unprofessional. Your assertion that professionalism equals victory is absurd.

As a supporter I'm quite happy with the way things worked out. The future captain of the side took charge of a situation and making a call in the middle despite what everyone else thought. He may not have made the right decision, but he will learn from this as will Chandimal. Also sends the right kind of message to the rest of the team. Incidents like this bode well for the future of the side. Also the reaction of the dressing room was so entertaining to watch, you can tell from the individual reactions what was really on the minds of certain players.

What somewhat perplexes me is why the English players got involved in this at all. It seems to have almost nothing to do with them. KP's reaction was hilarious actually.

Yeah those John Bull types like Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara need to wind their necks in, eh?
