Team: MS Dhoni (captain), Gautam Gambhir (vice-captain), Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Abhinav Mukund, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, S Sreesanth, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Munaf Patel, Amit Mishra, Wridhiman Saha and Virender Sehwag.

Badrinath :( Pujara:(

Nice to see Mukund there though ahead of Vijay.

But worried about leaving the number 6 slot to Yuvraj and Raina only.

Selectors probably were also thinking of the 5th bowling option - a role that Sehwag had been filling (and imho, they should). That's the one consideration that marks out these two ahead of the others.

Raina has redeemed himself in the WI test series so far, the batting has not been easy and he was - prior to this innings - the leading scorer in the series which is unusual for a #6.

Also, whose love child is W Saha for him to be continuously picked in the squad? Did Parthiv stuff up in the ODI series - as a WK?

Seems like it was a straight shootout between Badrinath and Yuvraj, and the WI ODIs cost the former.

I think the selectors might have settled on Saha for Tests and Parthiv for ODIs.

Seems that way.

Pujara was injured so they had to make the choice and Kohli has failed so far in the West Indies.

********** ODI'S.

Yep.

His keeping was poor and batting not great either.

Atleast they did not select Random Patel as a specialist opener.

Mukund's 48 yesterday paying off.

Fair enough for them to take Yuvraj, reckon Raina will play ahead of him at 6. Unlucky for Pujara and Badri. Hopefully Saha isn't needed in the tests.

There is irony in the Badri situation. He did poorly in the ODI, but except for one knock - so did Raina. But Raina was not under the scanner - for whatever reason - and his captaincy contributions meant that his ODI series was not perceived badly.

So Raina gets a chance in the WI test series ahead of Badri - and in a format that he's not perfect for and in conditions that do not suit his batting at all - somehow does a good job. And will likely be the #6 in Eng (ahead of Yuvi).

So Yuvraj again got selected based on ODI's while Badrinath got dropped based on them ffs!!

Hopefully Badrinath plays the 3rd test and tons up big time . That will teach them a lesson.

Yuvraj better get Pietersen out all the time to make up when he plays:p

Disagree.

The track for the first match with uneven slow bounce and big turn suited his batting perfectly.

He struggles on bouncy ,seaming tracks and specially with added swing. The track in this test match did not suit him ,not the first one.

AWTA.

Just checking for consistency here - was Yuvraj dropped from the ODI team after his horrid run in the Tests in Australia in 2008?

I don't think Badri was dropped because his average in the ODI's was below some required value. The instances when he batted, he looked like he did didn't belong at that level. Also he came in at times when he had a lot of time to build an inning - So it wasn't as if the needs of ODI cricket made him look ordinary.

Raina looked worse than Badrinath in the ODI's and T20 combined tbh and was throwing his wicket away in crucial stages.

Badrinath was MOTM in the T20 and only really looked poor in the 4th ODI.

Good squad overall.. and merits selection on form and class..

except for Swaha... Hasn't even turned out for a single game yet since his mockery of a test debut... and still gets picked... must be the quota selection...
