Nah, I don't ,they've just had a poor day and I reckon they'll come back from this.
Selection will be interesting for the next one. I quite liked having five specialist bowlers, but when some of them perform like they did today, we end up looking a batsman short because we're being set too many.

I just think we're very ordinary in these games, and have been for a while after something of a false dawn in SA the other winter.

But the fact is you seem to be ignoring, he's used that phrase many times before and it means, they don't do anything with the ball except ball, off spin or whatever it is they're bowling.
Neither does Swann. And Steyn only bowls outswingers, doesn't do much else with the ball.

All of that is beside the point anyway. I would be saying the same if Dernbach was being called ordinary here. More so if he was helping his team win. They're professional commentators, not CW posters.

I'd love us to smash everyone in ODIs, but we need to make sure we use the next two years whittling our squad down to a core of 16 or 17. From there we can spend the two years up to the WC what our best XI for various conditions is.

The fact that Cook fancied a chase today suggests we are thinking not about the result, but the preparation, and lessons we can learn.

I imagine we'll still draft in five debutants a week before the WC, but.

I think we played well last summer ,thinking back, before they went off to the Ashes, the team had shown some good improvements and where turning into a good side.
Today though, just seemed to emphasize England's frailties, if Trott doesn't go one, it leaves others, with work to do and to take up the slack and the same with Bell, he doesn't seem to be able, to take his game over to the one day stuff.
Not enough runs from guys like Swann and Broad for far too long is a problem as well and like someone said on commentary, when have they ever finished a game off for England.
Broad who is usually the best one day bowler and can be counted on to take wickets, hasn't found his form since those 2 injuries he had. Death bowling is crap and I can't believe how few yorkers they bowl, needs to be sorted out, if the team is to move on.
For me, you could leave Bell out and play Patel, who I feel would offer far more down the order. Yes, they didn't play well today but they played very well in the last match and we can start to make too much, out of this loss. We'll see how they respond to this defeat because they usually respond very well, from losses.

Can we drop.Bell.for.James Taylor.please?

I have no idea how Bell's got.through the last 6 months without his place being seriously questioned.

Except that he mentioned his Test average. And much better bowlers have come back to improve after an unspectacular first 30-odd games in ODI cricket.
His Test average? Is that the one that doesn't support the idea he might be an ordinary offspinner?
See, from where I'm sat all his International statistics are pretty ordinary.

That is why stats are not the be all and end all. 3 Test matches with scores over 650 in one of them over 450 in another. The only decent track he played on against India he had figures of 9/172 where India lost 15 wickets.

Evidently the guy is the next Murali then.
All 3 of them, as I said. Care to tell me what Warne averaged at that stage of his career?

You're doing a great job of completely missing the point though.. it's not particularly about Randiv (who I don't even like that much after the Sehwag incident). It's the spectacular ignorance/arrogance that making a comment like that portrays, while sitting in the commentary box.

Why is Stuart Broad constant referred to as "a thinking cricketer" or "fast learner" etc etc etc when the dumb **** still cant work out that he needs to pitch the ball up and bowl at the stumps more?

Reckon the comment was fine tbh. Randiv is ordinary at this stage of his career, so he said so. He may turn out to be the greatest bowler of all time but at this stage ordinary is not a word that shows any ignorance regarding him.

I guess your still ignoring what I've said then.

Still been solid rubbish for a very, very long time though, and has gotten something of a free pass whilst doing so.
