It's an utterly stupid comment. Plain ignorant. Given the timing of it is when said spinner completely scuppered England's chase, it comes across as ungracious.
WTF? He says it a lot, when talking about spinners and your taking far too much meaning out of it.

What's happened to Swanneh's hitting ability? A few years ago he'd be able to smack even the best bowlers.

Bumble in ignorance of the other team shocker, really. One of my pet hates in commentary.

Dunno what England's history of mediocre spinners has to do with it, though.
I never heard him say something like that before, he's generally someone I enjoy listening to.

I don't mind outspoken commentators... I have absolutely no problem with someone saying "he's bowling complete rubbish here" or similar, but calling a guy in the infancy of his career "ordinary"? That's really poor.

SL's quicks have provided an absolute lesson in how to bowl in these games. Any chance of the England lads having the intelligence to learn from them though?
"Basically guys, do what Malinga does. It's that simple."

Well Randiv's outings in International cricket to date don't seem to suggest much different do they?

All three of them? Yeah, that justifies calling a guy ordinary on TV commentary...

He's not a CW poster FFS. And saying it when England are taking a beating and Randiv has played a big part in it looks pathetic.

You seem to be ignoring Jacknife's responses. I'm on my way home from work and not watching, so can't comment but...

And you've also ignored the main reason I felt your post was poor...

Utterly stupid comment. Indeed.

You'd have to say that we've been completely outclassed today. Only Cook and Morgan had a clue with the bat, and ditto Anderson & Swann with the ball. SL, otoh, have been terrific. You can't see England doing a thing in the remaining games unless conditions are loaded in Jimmy's favour like they were at The Oval.

Nah, I don't ,they've just had a poor day and I reckon they'll come back from this.

Let me put it this way.. if Bishop or Holding had said a young fast bowler looked "ordinary", I'd be likelier to take it seriously. They're too smart for that, though.

And if Arun Lol or Sunil Gavaskar said a young WI or English fast bowler looked "ordinary", I'd point and laugh.

But the fact is you seem to be ignoring, he's used that phrase many times before and it means, they don't do anything with the ball except ball, off spin or whatever it is they're bowling.

So you're just ignore Jacknife's point and not justify bringing English spinners into it? Cool.
