Vijay ahead of Mukund on the dropping block for me ,i think.

But in any case it would be unfair on Mukund to drop him after one match and also on Kohli to make him open.
Kohli in any case will find his way back into the team in the long run.

Therefore, I think dropping Kohli would be the best sollution at the moment.
I know you don't like Vijay (:p) but he has a Test ton to his name and has done well on several occasions filling in for Gambhir. Surely he has more credit in the bank than Mukund? Personally I think we should persist with this team and make changes for the third Test. If we win the 2nd match, then it will be a dead rubber and we can bring him in for Dravid/Laxman, otherwise we can drop whoever does poorly again in the next match.

I'm as big a Badrinath fan as anyone but once they didn't pick him for the first Test they couldn't pick him for the second either, unless they want to rest Dravid which I find unlikely.

And yeah I don't really rate Vijay either but he's gone okay in Tests so far and should be ahead of Mukund at the moment.

Vijay has not convinced me in ODI's or in Tests tbh. Has done very little except for that series against Australia and was picked ahead of Mukund strangely in the first place.
In any case neither of the openers need to be dropped ,so won't go too much into that.

But Badrinath deserves his chance more than Kohli AFAIC.

They are likely to stick to the same team imo. Win this test first then in the last one they can give Badri a proper go.

Dravid won't be rested after his ton and the crucial role he played in this match.
And Raina performed this match is pretty good in such conditions so he won't be dropped either.

I get what you are saying ,but the things is if Badrinath does not get his chance here after doing almost all that could be asked from him for the last year and more then there is a real chance that he may not get his break ever.

Kohli deserves not to be dropped after one Test more than Badrinath deserves to be picked, if you get what I mean.

One test match and that too after the series has been won ,would hardly be a proper go tbf.
Specially when his direct competition are getting 3 matches each.

It's not a charity though. I would've picked him for the first Test personally but once they didn't, there's no real logic in picking him for the second one. If he never gets his chance well that's just life.

The only change I see India making is getting in Munaf in place of Mishra. Dhoni always goes with 3 pacers/1 spinner combo abroad. Rest I see no change in the squad. If Kohli fails in the 2nd match only then I can see Badri coming in 3rd Test match

Kohli should definitely be given this whole series. He has been fantastic at international level (although in a different format) and his talent is there for everyone to see. If he performs, then he should be strongly considered for England, otherwise Pujara should be brought back. Sure, he may turn out to be another Yuvraj (Jono's gonna kill me for this ) but we'll never find that out unless we give him a fair go.

changes i'd like to see for the 2nd test-

Munaf in for mishra
Badrinath in for Vijay

Vijay's done nothing since his debut. That 100 was a fluke; he got dropped a few times IIRC and looked quite unimpressive.

I watched that innings live.. I don't remember him getting dropped. The pitch was fairly placid at that stage of the match but India were around 40-2 and under pressure chasing Australia's total of 470-odd. It was a very good knock.

Can't believe people have called for Kohli to be dropped.

Jeez, this is how you ruin players' confidence and careers. Back him for more than one test ffs.

Hauritz to Vijay, 1 run, Dropped by Katich at short -leg. It was from round the stumps and Vijay leaned forward for the defensive push. The ball went of the inner edge and Katich was on the rise when the ball came low and between his legs. He tried to go down and cup his palms but couldn't hold

Hilfenhaus to Vijay, no run, run out missed Again another risky tip-and-run stuff from Vijay.

nearly ran out sehwag 3 times aswell.

Hilfenhaus to Vijay, 1 leg bye, Loud shout for lbw Hilfy can't believe it has been turned down. Looked very close. It was the slow offcutter and Vijay was beaten by the "turn" and was hit right in front. It would have hit the middle stump. It looked pretty adjacent. Plumb in fact.

Hilfenhaus to Vijay, no run, Is it a drop catch by Paine? dropped indeed Very tough. It was banged in short and it cut to the rib cage .. Vijay pokes at it and it goes of the gloves ( I think) and Paine goes diving down the leg side .. as he landed the ball I think fell on to the ground and he turned over ... My colleague Madhu says he thinks Paine held on and caught it. In that case it's a surprise why neither the bowler or the keeper appealed. They are not showing the replay of it .. I am sure it went of the gloves. Hmmm. Chaos. No proper replay of it at all.

Update: It was a "drop". The ball spilled from his gloves and fell to the ground ..

Hilfenhaus to Vijay, no run, Shout for a catch by Paine Another short delivery and this one straightens outside off, The last one went to the rib cage; this one went on straight. Vijay tries to drop his wrists and the ball goes close past the gloves and hits the shoulder. Paine dives to his right to take it. No bat or glove there

74.2

Hauritz to Vijay, 1 run, almost caught at short midwicket. Vijay went back to try to clip it to square-leg. It went of the leading edge to left of short straightish midwicket and Ponting went diving full stretch but couldn't reach it
Thats why I said he looked unimpressive.

so batsman can't even have a play and miss if thats the case then Sachin's 146 vs Steyn & Co is the worst innings ever.

Badrinath to be picked more than him to be dropped tbf.

Sachin wasn't dropped in that innings or had a wrong LBW decision for him.

Dravid had a simple chance dropped in this test on single digit tbf before he tonned up and would be a better example.
But then both were tougher conditions than the match against Australia.
