Sharma's bowling seemed to get worse as the match progressed. Was really losing his line.

Harbhajan's knock in the first innings was excellent, bowling was a bit of a disappointment as it has been in recent times.

A poor performance by the Indian bowlers. The last four batsmen scored exactly 100 runs which is ridiculous on this surface.

West Indians lost this match just after lunch, as was expected. In fact there was never going to be another result after that Bhajji-Raina stand in the first innings.

Indian spin bowling leaves a lot to be desired, especially with this performance on a pitch that suited them. PK's debut and his ability to dismiss top-order batsmen was heartening. Even today, when he got Bravo and Chanders, it was just going to be a matter of time.

R.S.Dravid is my man of the match for that superb knock in conditions not exactly favourable for batting. West Indians must be proud of the way Barath, Edwards and Bishoo have performed.

All in all, it was an absorbing contest. All 22 players ought to hold their heads up high. Peace out!

Not really. If the West Indies didn't bat like retards in the first innings they could have won this. They scored more runs in the 4th innings than any other innings while managing to restrict India to around 250 each hit.

You gotta wonder what would have happened if Sammy didn't drop that sitter as well. One feels the Windies threw away a great chance to lead this series. But there's plenty of positives to take away. Nash should certainly fear for his career though

we batted like retards too esp in the first innings. had we scored 400 which I believe we were perfectly capable of, this wouldve been a cakewalk.

Again, it's a decent performance from the guys with 5 or 6 of the top guys missing.

And **** yeah, we can do it without Zak. Our 5th win in 12 tests without him since 08. where's the chap who said we are bang std without him??

of course, the overall performance could.ve been slightly better but yeah most of these guys are coming off a hectic schedule and to adapt so quickly to these conditions need effort.

Ummm ok? Relevance to what i said? I was replying to another post that suggested it was all over after the Raina/Bhaji partnership before the Windies had even batted.\

Besides, you were bundled out for 250 odd in both innings. Bit short of 400 don't you think

am saying it's not as if wi performed below par that india scraped through this.

we did underperform with the bat no doubt ans that's clearly an area we can work on in.

as to scoring 400, had the top order playedo out the dirst sesson, we'd have scored it considering the ease with which harby and raina batted.

still a lineup missing sehwag, gambhir, tendulkar, pujara, zaheer and sree, with veterans dravid and laxman coming off after 6 months of little cricket than ipl, fairly good enough stuff.

reckon we'll get the next test by an innings.

interestingly many teams have struggled in their first test in a tour of wi here.

australia, in 08 were 18 for 5 leading by just 130 odd in the 2nd innings before they recovered somewhat to post 167 and won it.

England actually lost in 09.

Pakistan lost too in the last series.

Only SA seems to be an exception.

Regardless of people blaming the batting, this is a low scoring ground. They say that every time anyone plays here. Regardless, a little more application would have been nice. But 250ish is probably par.

Worth saying another time,

Praveen >>>>> Haters on CW
Who were the haters?
Said it since Kumar played in Aus way back when that he would go alright in test cricket. Guy swings it both ways, always going to be a handful in the right conditions and especially against oppo which can't bat.

On the oppo, for a guy with such a big rep, the next Lara apparently, Darren Bravo against the moving ball is a sight to behold. If anything he is the new Dwayne Bravo, gets himself in, gets himself out. Should be the end of Nash as well, Sarwan and Chanderpaul have both forgot how to rotate the strike, the former has also forget how to bat but Nash has never been able to rotate the strike. He just comes in, stagnates the innings and then gets out to a longhop. A **** side can't afford to carry such an average cricketer. What to do about Carlton Baugh as well?

as much as people complain about Sammy spoiling the team's balance its their bowling which is their stronger suit by far. Both Chander and Sarwan have declined the rest are not test standard yet including the Barath's and the Bravo's, the bowling shows a lot of promise but like any good attack they need runs to play with.Even an attack of Ambrose,Wasim,Mcgrath & Warne needs on average 250 runs to win a match Westindies barely average 200 runs per innings so there bowlers are on a hidiing for nothing and would only win if they play another side with a ****e batting line up.

Who were the haters?
No haters, just people who don't think he can make it in test cricket because he bowls slow. And there are quite a few of them tbh.

People were saying the same thing when he was playing ODIs in the tri-series finals vs. Australia back in 2008.

Regarding the reaction to the win. I think we should be thankful we won, rather than complaining about the performance. Let's just remember we had three debutants.

Hopefully they'll improve heading into the second test. Great to be 1-0 up.

Also we should be proud of the Raina/Harbhajan and Dravid/Mishra partnerships. Our tail has stood up so many times over the last few years.
