Regarding the reaction to the win. I think we should be thankful we won, rather than complaining about the performance. Let's just remember we had three debutants.

Hopefully they'll improve heading into the second test. Great to be 1-0 up.

Also we should be proud of the Raina/Harbhajan and Dravid/Mishra partnerships. Our tail has stood up so many times over the last few years.
Absolutely, considering how hard we have found it to win overseas historically, we should cherish it.

That said, I can't escape the feeling that the "less poor" team, and the one that has better experience of holding its nerve lately, won this match. WI look pretty much like a team that can't shake off its losing habit.

We knew WI are a poor team before the series, so no big deal that we won on the back of them playing poorly. That's why we have sent a second xi.

This series is all about winning and getting experience into our depth, and seeing just how good they are.

We now know the issues Mishra has, and know that Vijay has a problem giving it away, and Mukund and Kohli have got their first taste and know it ain't easy out there. These are good things to find out/confirm.

Also, Kumar bowled pretty well and we know at the very least he can consistently swing it both ways at test level, which is what we always hoped.

We also know that Raina, whilst far from the finished product, is working on his longer-form batting and handling the shorter ball.

All good things to accomplsh whilst getting an away win :)

Ideally WI should strive for

Gayle
Barath
Bravo
Chanderpaul
Sarwan
Samuels
Baugh
Roach
Edwards
Bishoo
Rampaul/taylor/russell.

Rampaul > Edwards TBH.
Nah DWTA. Rampaul's improved a bit but if Edwards is fit he should definitely play ahead of him.

Rampaul may be more valuable due to being available more often, but I'd take Edwards give fitness and availability as constants.

Badrinath should get a go in the next test ,i think.

But the problem is for whom?
Kohli. Slightly harsh but Badri should not open and Raina had an awesome game.

That or drop Mukund, Make Kohli open and get Badri in but I prefer the first option as Mukund had a slightly better game than Kohli and it doesn't mess with natural batting positions as much as the second option.

I just don't rate Edwards' type of bowling that much. Kind of like Malinga without the yorkers. TBF to him, he did bowl well in this match, but seems to bowl 80% of his deliveries half-way down the pitch.

Virat Kohli must be given another chance to bat in the middle order.

I'd leave it the same as it was in this Test for India. Mukund and Kohli will get better

Edwards,Roach ,Taylor and Russell are relatively similar bowlers though.
As in hit the pitch hard and slightly short and rely on reverse or Seam movement.

Rampaul when he gets it going can be a swing bowler and pitch it up more ,which gives them a slightly different option than the rest.
Edwards main weapon of attack seems to be the short ball ,almost the same with Taylor.

Roach and Taylor definitely seem to have a touch of class about them, they pitch it up and can move it around a bit at good pace. Russell should eventually replace Sammy if and when WI find a performing captain who gets along with WICB. Rampaul is always a good man to have in the attack because he can bowl very long spells at good pace, and make the batsman play on a consistent basis.

They'll have to wait for Sammy to stop randomly performing so well in Tests as well.

That is why i said almost the same with Taylor.

Taylor can pitch it up when he is bowling well ,but still relies on the short ball heavily too. Even his length when he pitches it up can be too full at times and he is not searching for traditional Swing at those lengths like Rampaul who can take it away from the right handers too.

I think if they are playing Roach and Taylor, Rampaul gives better variation and consistency than Edwards.

Vijay ahead of Mukund on the dropping block for me ,i think.

But in any case it would be unfair on Mukund to drop him after one match and also on Kohli to make him open.
Kohli will find his way back into the team in the long run eventually.

Therefore, I think dropping Kohli would be the best sollution at the moment.

DWTA. No-one in the world deserves a test match opportunity more than Badrinath right now.
Agree.

And it would be really unfair if his best chance in years and in the forseeable future, would be ruined because of a Few stupid ODI Games ,When it is not even his favored format by a distance.

Btw, English Fans should be cheering on Raina as much as they can in this series as if he does well here he gets into the Indian side for England ,i think which i can see being a disaster.
