Yeah we had a debate here a few weeks about. Indian fans very split on it.

I'm uneasy about it, but at the end of the day the schedule between the IPL, West Indies tour and England tour is so jam packed, and the fact is, unfortunately the IPL has changed the game now.

Plus it give Kohli a go :D

The only person who has been "gifted" a test debut is Kohli technically, as he's the one replacing Sachin, who is "officially" being rested. Mukund has come in for Sehwag who is legitimately injured. Praveen Kumar has come in for Zaheer and Sreesanth who is legitimately injured.

A lot of India's 2nd XI are injured as well so its a weird tour.
Don't want to be the sort of **** who side tracks a thread, but can you list your full strength team and injury/reason for missing this match next to their name for interest sake?

Tendulkar- played in the ipl so rested, plus there's only a 5 day break between the end of the westindies series and the start of the england tour.
Sehwag- decided to have an operation now
gambhir- played through an injury in the ipl, now unavailable
zaheer- probably picked up a niggle in the ipl
sreesanth- same as zaheer
munaf- got injured during the wi odi series

and Pujara- got injured during the ipl

Is this Rahul Dravid 150th test match or 151st? coz on cricinfo commentary they are saying this is his 150th match where as his cricinfo record shows its his 151st test match.

Dravid made his debut against England on 20th June 1996, and if its his 150th test match, its also on 20th june 2011, Exact 15 years. What a great coincidence!!!!

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah, indeed. And given Dravid's in pretty poor form himself and realistically shouldn't be a nailed on certainty to make the team, messing with his head would be a terrible idea IMO. The weaknesses in his technique that have developed over the last year or so relating to how he falls over to the off side and both defends at balls he doesn't need to and plays around his front pad would be exaggerated if he was opening as well. He needs a good series here to get his balance right and some confidence back; that's why he's on the trip I'd say.
Think it is all to do with his backfoot not going across at all.. In his best days, his front foot would move towards the offstump and then his backfoot would follow.. Right now he is staying put and ending up poking at balls outside the offstump..

I see.

So brutally against resting players in test matches. Was talk of Australia doing it against Bangladesh and I was furious. You don't gift ****s test caps, that's what ODI's are for.
Like Murphy, have no real idea about this series - what was the justification given for resting Sachin?

Not trying to get a reaction here or anything, but does it rile a bit that (arguably) your best player can seemingly pick and choose when he does and doesn't play - bloke barely seems to play ODIs nowadays unless it's the World Cup, and now he's being rested for a Test series. Surely people would want him to play as much as he can?
Couldn't agree more.
