Yeah, agreed. Looking at the scorecard in a few years folk'll think Prior's had a mare, but he's had no earthly for at least 90% of them. Umpires very tight on the keeper.

Smacks of desperation because Strauss isn't usually a "review everything" player like Pietersen, Watson or Broad.

Although the catch he snaffled off Swann suggests the reflexes haven't deserted him yet.

My only hope is that Strauss doesn't turn into a Vaughan like figure, ie only in the team because he's captain.

Only really happened in ODIs.

He wasn't particularly good at the very end of his Test career, but I don't really think he would've been dropped any sooner if he wasn't captain.

Nope. The fact he was given a central contract after he gave the captaincy away rather proves your point.

Until Trott came along we didn't have an even vaguely adequate replacement at #3.

I think he's looked very organized, at least he's giving himself a chance to get in. When he was in his best form, he never really ever scored quickly right off the bat, he gradually played himself in and then started playing more shots.

Dim light takes the players off the pitch 2 minutes early.

KP has looked very determined and controlled in that period. I expect tomorrow he'll play himself in then attempt to bludgeon the bowlers all around Lord's. At least, that's what I hope he will do.

Shame I have to go to work again. :cry:

At the same time the last thing KP needed to do in that situation was needlessly throw his wicket away by being overly aggressive.

No doubt he's trying hard and deternined not to give it away, but when he's in prime nick even his defensive strokes look beautifully natural.

No going to knock a chap for trying to play his way into form tho. Hopefully it'll all click into place soon.

Meanwhile, according to oddschecker England are available to win at 33/1. Seems insanely generous in light of Cardiff.

Weather is set fair for tomorrow. There's still a remote chance of an England win but it's no more likely than in Cardiff. England are on their second innings and so they can't declare with the knowledge that it doesn't matter how Sri Lanka bat. They'll declare defensively.

(As they should, against a good batting side on an even surface while ahead in the series)

Neither would I have thought KP would run into problems against left-arm spin, a few years back. I do remember his introduction to Test Cricket in 2005. I know Shane Warne's leggies are not the same as left arm spin, but still...., that didn't give me a clue he would struggle against it.

It is like he picked it up somewhere in his career, rather than that a technical flaw was detected by bowlers....
