Could England just say that Anderson is retired hurt overnight after the result of his scans and open up this morning with Cook and Trott? Might have been their thinking last night when they sent him out instead of another bowler.

I never really like seeing a nightwatchman come out but it does mean that England bat right the way through - Prior 8, Broad 9, Swann 10.
All the more reason not to do it, IMO, as it increases the chance of one of those players being wasted.

Saker's just confirmed Jimmy will bat.

Also said that he hopes to have him available for the next test, so I think we can rule him out for the 2nd inninngs.

Who comes in if Jimmeh is crocked? Onions? Dernbach?

Have no idea what type of bowler Dernbach is admittedly but Shazad seems the obvious like for like replacement.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Finn come in for Anderson if he can't play seeing as he's in the squad. I'd pick Shahzad though.

I imagine SL will be annoyed with this interruption. If it results in a bit of moisture and swing in the air, it could prove to be beneficial, though.

anderson will not be bowling for the rest of the match. let's see if lanka can use this to their advantage and whether captain petulant has what it takes to shoulder the bowling load and also help marshal it well.

How do you mean? Surely if they're batting with eachother there's no diference to coming in one space higher?
Means they won't have Anderson to bat with later though. Instead he'll be batting now when two batsmen should be able to form a partnership anyway.

Insensitive? He got shot at ffs, and one of his team mates took a bullet to the leg. And people died basically next to him.

There are a few insensitive folks mentioned in that article, but Dilshan ain't one of them.
Dilshan was incredibly mild with his comments considering what the team went through.

About Broad's 'appealing', he was doing it when bowling for Notts in the County match that was televised on Sky. I assume he does it to try and con the umpires? It makes him look like an idiot, but until an umpire reports him for celebrating without appealing (which is a form of over-appealing and there is a law about it), he'll keep doing it as there is no reason to stop. It took Brett Lee being reported and fined for him to stop.

It's funny that his father is now a match ref when he had no respect for umpires at all. And it appears neither does his son.
