India are playing more tests these days because they have the no1. ranking you buffoon. It's got nothing to do with the IPL

I've already acknowledged that the IPL is a good pay packet, but it has severe consequences for the rest of cricket.
lol, what stupid logic, india werent no.1 in 2008 you mug. and certainly their international t 20 fortunes have dipped in the period....

and what do u have to say abt the lesser no. of odis as compared to say the 90s? they were anything but no.1 when they were playing a gazzillion odis then...

instead of repeating the same dull ****, why dont for once state why it is killing cricket as we know it?

india certainly looks the farthest from suiting ur delusional archetype of a ipl stuffed country. they are neck deep in ipl, while at same time are world champs in odis and tests.

Guess compressing it to the month of March or April and a window for it in the ICC calendar would be the most practical way forward.
yeah this. I admit I have already lost what little interest in ipl. I admit it's already 15 games more than it should be. they are killing the golden goose.

people should feel a need to watch these, not get shoved down their throats a hundred matches in 9 weeks.

best way is to get a calendar done in. or if possible merge the pointless champions league into ipl.

I've already put forward my criticisms against IPL in numerous other IPL related threads. I'm not going to bother repeating them to someone who is clearly not going to objectively judge them.

I can't be bothered replying to the rest of your drivel. Make another thread if you wish but I think I might put this thread back on track after derailing it before.

I know what you mean but a formal ICC calendar window would be disastrous. Why shouldn't the SPL, the Big Bash or the Champions trophy have windows then as well?

- Yeah the IPL is worth more money, but tell that to the individual boards and their domestic players

IMO, the IPL should be of a 3 or 4 week length with less matches and teams.

or give a bigger cut to these boards... tis all the same... correct me if wrong, but cant t20 matches be held in SA and Aus in feb and mar? if yes, a leg of this combined cl-ipl **** can be held in these places and another leg in the subc...two months for this summer league... boards share the revenue....

The good thing about IPL is that it falls a neat point in the calendar where there is little other int'l cricket in the calendar. Which is the big reason why I'm so ambivalent about the new BBL (despite the fact that CA does need the money)

Have all the competitions together in this Window and let the players decide where they want to play in a free market system like Football?

Some may want to play in their home countries and some due to the money may want to go into the IPL. like happens with footballers going to Europe and the big 3 leagues.

As for your argument why other competitions should not have a Window if the IPL is given one.

It is because no other competition has the pulling power that the players are ready to miss international cricket to play it.
And the Window will be for the international players only, not the domestic ones who want to play overseas.

We can debate (as some of us have done) about what form the IPL should take if the best long term interest of cricket.

We can rave and rant and fulminate (as mercifully a much smaller number have done) about it.

In the end, none of it matters in the least in influencing the future course that IPL will take. It is now a creature completely controlled by market forces. The BCCI, the franchise owners, or the ICC are only nominally in charge as far as this tournament is concerned; none of them have the power to control its destiny any more.

It is those vast majority of humble cricket fans - who do not think that their personal opinion is so momentous that they only have to publish it on an internet forum for the world to sit up, take notice and act accordingly - who will decide its fate. If they continue to support it it will thrive; if they desert it it will collapse like a house of cards. The IPL will be what they want it to be; and what right do I have to complain that they haven't sought my guidance in deciding on what they want?

What crap. Just because my opinion doesn't have the power to influence and make change doesn't mean I shouldn't air it. If you have a problem with that don't post on forum boards.

What the hell? Came in here to discuss the ODI squad and for a long time I thought I was in one of the other IPL love/hate threads. Had to look again to see if I had clicked the India vs. WI thread.

So, ODI series starts soonish. It annoys me that Parthiv is going to take the opening spot, having never hit an OD century. People like Dhawan or Rahane should have this opportunity. We cannot merely waste the openers spot on someone so unproven, just because we have an abundance of quality middle order players. It'll be interesting to see how Ishant gets on, he looks massively improved in this IPL. He hasn't taken many wickets, but the pace is definitely there and this is something he has been lacking recently. Vinay will probably miss out, but I've always thought he would be one better suited to Test cricket anyway - not that he is ever likely to get that opportunity.

Parthiv opening the batting is a poor choice. They're likely to get as much with Praveen Kumar, or Yusuf Pathan, both of whom are at least cut out for ODIs. A much better option would be to open with Kohli, who's often done well as a reserve opener, and has done well on very difficult pitches, although way back, in Sri Lanka.

Vinay should be in for a place in the ODI side, as he's more versatile than other seamers, being a top fielder and also a decent batsman. He was also tipped as a potential replacement for Irfan Pathan, and though Praveen Kumar (five List-A fifties) has a better shout, a little competition and more options will do good. Ashwin's an even better choice, with a fantastic FC record with bat and ball.

This bowling lineup, though, is too strong for Vinay to break in, although conserving Munaf Patel for the Tests may get him in. The option of resting Harbhajan and running in Mishra for the Test series through the ODI/T20 leg should be explored.

Amit Mishra, Vinay Kumar, Praveen Kumar and Badrinath (and even Yusuf Pathan) have played over fifty List-A games and have a lot of FC experience, so the team should feature them regularly across the series. They need to reward the domestic experience that these blokes have, and plump for them ahead of mere promising youngsters.

He does have his pace back, but I'd have liked to see his stock inswinging delivery back more. Also, I don't know much about the technicalities of bowling actions but the problem he had where he was falling away and a majority of his deliveries pitched on the 6th stump was still present in most of his spells. There was the odd spell or two especially towards the end of the ipl where he seemed to have corrected it though.
