Parthiv opening the batting is a poor choice. They're likely to get as much with Praveen Kumar, or Yusuf Pathan, both of whom are at least cut out for ODIs. A much better option would be to open with Kohli, who's often done well as a reserve opener, and has done well on very difficult pitches, although way back, in Sri Lanka.
Vinay should be in for a place in the ODI side, as he's more versatile than other seamers, being a top fielder and also a decent batsman. He was also tipped as a potential replacement for Irfan Pathan, and though Praveen Kumar (five List-A fifties) has a better shout, a little competition and more options will do good. Ashwin's an even better choice, with a fantastic FC record with bat and ball.
This bowling lineup, though, is too strong for Vinay to break in, although conserving Munaf Patel for the Tests may get him in. The option of resting Harbhajan and running in Mishra for the Test series through the ODI/T20 leg should be explored.
Amit Mishra, Vinay Kumar, Praveen Kumar and Badrinath (and even Yusuf Pathan) have played over fifty List-A games and have a lot of FC experience, so the team should feature them regularly across the series. They need to reward the domestic experience that these blokes have, and plump for them ahead of mere promising youngsters.
