Georgetown, Guyana – The WICB Selection Committee has named the following 13 players in the West Indies squad for the First Digicel Test:

1. Darren Sammy – Captain

2. Brendan Nash – Vice Captain

3. Devendra Bishoo

4. Carlton Baugh Jr – Wicketkeeper

5. Darren Bravo

6. Shiv Chanderpaul

7. Fidel Edwards

8. Ravi Rampaul

9. Kemar Roach

10. Marlon Samuels

11. Ramnaresh Sarwan

12. Lendl Simmons

13. Devon Smith

Good to see Sammy forcing Andre Russell to be dropped. I hear that Samuels made a double yesterday? Maybe enough to squeeze Devon out

Dont have much faith in Nash opening though - dont really think he should be moved from the number six position that has bought him decent success, but hey, anything to get Devon out the team I suppose... What are the chances of selectors ignoring a century?!

Simmons
Nash
Bravo
Sarwan
Chanderpaul
Samuels
Baugh
Sammy
Edwards
Bishoo
Roach

Cor. Writing that I realised how much the top 6 need to perform, and with two very much unproved openers in tests at the top and an out of sorts chanders and sarwan - could get flattened at least one innings in the two tests - hopefully the team can all perform at the same time.

because of Sammy the team looks so light on both batting and bowling. If Russell could replace him the bowling and batting would be significantly imrpoved

Junaid Khan bowling just two overs in the game against Guyana means Tanvir Ahmed is sure to be selected ahead of him. He did get the wicket of Chanderpaul though

Geez, if you had Gayle and one of Russell,Taylor in there then this could be a decent side. I hope Nash can make a decent go at the openers spot. It would be a shame for him to get dropped six months down the line for poor form in an really unfamiliar role. I know he opened back in the days but this is different.

Would be even better if Barath was available

Sarwan batted a second time, and only made 18, so I think Samuels has stolen a march on him....

Sadly, I think we're stuck with Smith and Sammy....

1) Simmons
2) Smith
3) Darren Bravo
4) Shiv Chanderpaul
5) Marlon Samuels
6) Brendan Nash
7) Carlton Baugh
8) Darren Sammy
9) Kemar Roach
10) Ravi Rampaul or Fidel Edwards
11) Dev Bishoo

So frustrating that Edwards will find himself left out after all this. Surely they won't drop Rampaul after his performance in the ODIs?

I would understand if Milton Friedman would prefer Standard Chartered but please do forgive me if I don't really rate Wasim Akram's choice in banking :p

By that same token surely you dont drop the standout Windies bowler prior to his injury? Having said that I suppose no one really knows how he'll bowl when he comes back...

Lucky you!

Any idea if he's coming back here for the remaining KKR matches?

The only famous cricketer that I have ever met is Imran...........tbf he is the only cricketer that I have really wanted to meet.........

Have met Chanderpaul quite a bit since he was very good friends of a friend of mine in Karachi. Used to come to his house on every visit to Pakistan. Also met the whole South African and WI teams of the 96 WC through him back in 96 (barring a few players). Met Cronje too
