Well Pandey is aggressive too, and so is Paine when he's actually in form. But he was horrible. Should have just let them bowl at his middle peg and walked off.

The batting order is okay. But they're not batting aggerssively enough. Unless they expect Uthappa to strike at 300.

Awful, didn't middle one once. They are lucky he's out as he was very busy sinking their ship.

I don't understand Pune. Their tactics with the batting line-up don't make sense.

It is going to be too late for Uthappa or Yuvraj to do anything about this match by the time they get out there.
Agree; Yuvraj and Uthappa should bat at three and four.

That was pathetic from Tim Paine. GTFO.
I'm just surprised that people actually expect him to contribute with the bat, he at best is steady batsman and that's why he is looking like a fish out of water in the T20 format.

Its also nothing short of a joke that Paine is actually the vice-captain of the Australian T20 side and Pune too are probably getting influenced by that, their batting looks thin and one would have thought getting someone like Ferguson into that middle order would have been a pretty obvious thing to do.

Anyways... good to see the Royals making some sort of a comeback and Botha is surely reinventing himself as a cricketer in the Royals' colours..!!

Doesn't Paine have a pretty good record in the Big Bash? Strikes at 141
Its a stat that is hugely inflated by couple of breezy knocks but his OD strike-rate is in the 60's which gives you a fair idea about the way he really bats.

EDIT: Have a feeling Pune will win here, apart from Dan the RCB bowling looks pretty weak and most batting line-ups in this IPL should really look to take em to the cleaners.

Morrison you're an idiot.

"Ryder has thrown away a great opportunity"

How? By trying to play his shots and chase down 12 rpo?

Pandey couldn't have ****ed it up more if he'd tried, could he? Shame, I like the bloke, he's quite talented IMO.

Beats me why Pune picked Tim Paine. Might as well have Robin Uthappa keep and get in Callum Ferguson.
Uthappa is keeping, isn't he? I have no idea why Paine is in the side over Ferguson or even over the other foreign players in the squad if he isn't keeping.

Yuvraj has to be easily the worst captain in the IPL.

Not only his motivation abilities seem to be weak ,his bowling changes are weak and FFS the batting combination is weird.

Open with Pandey and Ryder ,you idiot and come up at 3 or 4 yourself depending upon the situation, not at 5. And also push Uthappa above 6.

Pandey is not someone who can smash big sixes from the get go. His success for RCB came from attacking and hitting four early on for RCB when the field was up and then after building momentum going after the bowling.

I'm a Karnataka fan, but he's too hit or miss. Can't play the moving ball as well (see your Kohli thread).

Tbf, it wasn't for the lack of trying.
The harder he tried to hit ,the less he would time it seemed.

The ball kept dropping near him or one bounce to the fielder.

Should be opening with ryder as atleast with the field up ,if not for six those shots would atleast go for 4.

Yeah, he would probably do better with the field up. Though Jono says he struggles against the moving ball.

Yuvraj and Uthappa are two of Pune's most expensive players from the auction, now surely as an invester you would want to make sure that you get maximum benefits out of your investments.

Now I can't understand how they are gonna achieve that by hiding them down in the batting order, I sure as hell hope that they just didn't spend over 2 mil on Uthappa to make him keep and slog a few at the end.

Also Yuvraj's captaincy has always been poor and frankly speaking that's where the coach steps in and earns his money, Geoff Marsh for me has been pretty poor with his tactics and he just hasn't been able to work out the strengths and weaknesses of his team and assign roles to his players accordingly.

Don't think he struggles against the moving ball, more than the other openers when trying to attack in the IPL.

Remember easily his best IPL was in South Africa where many of those batsman who have done well in IPL'S in India struggled with the moving ball and bounce.

Don't think there is more swing in India than in South Africa. He struggles with timing on these slower pitches in fact.

Pandey can play well of the backfoot and handles bounce quite well. Somewhat iffy against swing and unconvincing on the front foot. Yes, he would do better if he opens; he's the only young Indian batsman who can actually pull with authority.

Gayle has turned around RCB'S fortunes.

Brilliant signing. Having him up top also gives Virat Kohli and AB de villiers time to come in and settle.

Dilshan has been horrible though. And them dropping Pujara for Kaif is really **** after keeping batting him at 6/7 all along.

Maybe should make Pujara open with Gayle the next match and drop Dilshan.
