I mean Beer came him problems in Sydney (had him almost caught on a number of occasions) by simply flighting it a bit on middle and leg and inviting him to play across the line, and having a few short midwickets in place. Not turning it or varying it, just flighting it. Still made a hundred million runs ofc but that's because Beer isn't much cop. And oversteps.

To be honest Cook doesn't strike me as a very good player of spin in general, he's just excellent at playing defensive legside spin bowling (or in the case of X-Do, terrible long hops). If Harbhajan bowls aggressively he could give Cook a few problems.
Unlikely. He's a defensive ****

LOL I very vividly remeber that no-ball. Wasn't that going to be Beer's 1st wicket?

That Beer no-ball episode was hilarious. Everything that could possibly go wrong for Australia in that series, did.

Well, he can still bowl some awesome spells (like Day 4 at Cape Town recently) so I haven't completely lost hope yet. Unfortunately he regressed again in the WC, though it's a different format. He is such a confidence bowler, needs to back himself more when the results aren't forthcoming immediately.

Haven't checked, but he has a good record in the subcontinent, doesn't he? Certainly did well on his debut tour to India and SL in 2007 also IIRC, where he would have faced Murali.
He does but that doesn't make him a good player of spin. His game is all about blocking/leaving the crap out of it when he's unsure and making hay when conditions suit. Touring the subcontinent he's always sooner or later had a go on some batting wickets against medium-pacers and so he's had the chance to do that.

Haha, the level of scrutiny in this thread reminds me so much of the Ashes build up. I can't wait for this series.
If only there was a subforum
ThisRoad to India in England 2011is going to be a very long road indeed.

How does one post in a thread which already has 560 posts spread over 7 months and is due to run for a few more months when the activity would be at a feverish pitch? Refuse to read any of the stuff that has already been posted, but hold forth regardless, I presume.

Had a look and there are only 27 occasions in history, but almost all of them are from 5 and 6-Test series, including Smith & Gibbs in 03 and painfully many Australians in 89-01.

Chris Gayle was the last to do it in 2004 (getting exactly 400), and remains the only one to do it in a 4-Test series since Sunil Gavaskar in 1979.

So I still think 400 in 4 Tests is a huge ask for a touring opener here. Sehwag can have an excellent series and still not get there.
YEP.

That much for a opener in England can be a really big task.

But then again it is Sehwag and he just needs one higher scoring match to make up the majority of it.

How good is the second half of this year going to be? India-England, then Aus-SA and Aus-India. Throw in some SL series for good measure and it shoulf be fun times ahead.
True.

It's kind of great that England come to India so soon, after we go there.
