Social, do you reckon its been noticeably worse than previous years?

I would say so. Definate drop I think in the 'hunger' level - people not applying themselves as much. One is the post CWC drained players, second is after the auction this year players know that they are good for another three years - they can again catch the eye in IPL2013 for the next autction

IMO, It doesnt really matter so long as the drop in skill levels are not comincally bad and the matches are tight. No one reallly comes to see classy cricket at IPL do they? We have the English Summer for that kind of entertainment.

Years 1 and 2 sustained my interest because of novelty value, former greats coming out of retirement etc

This one, coming after the excitement of the WC, offers me nothing other than programme filling and I'm probably looking at it with a more critical eye

In that regard, reckon someone should've picked up Lara as I'd have tuned in just to watch him again

Agreed. The cricket has been terrible in every edition so far.

In fact, I do not know of any domestic T20 tournament where the cricket played is not terrible. These are there purely for their entertainment value for new followers of cricket. Where you can watch a cricket match in much the same way as you watch a Hollywood thriller - not for cinematic excellence, but for a few cheap thrills. And most of them don't even thrill.

The IPL also suffers because it is infested with Australian coaching staff; a thoroughly unimaginative and uninspiring bunch, IMHO. I think it could be far less staid if it had a more balanced international mix of coaching staff.

Not really. Mahela has a tendency of being inconsistent plus B Mac wasn't too impressive for KKR before. Jadeja has been universally proclaimed as crap. Hodge is pretty consistent but no one could predict if he would do well here.

Have to say I'm liking Kochi these days. I'm jumping ship and supporting them instead of Mumbai.
