He was. Sadly I think he emphasises the attacking aspects too much these days in commentary, doesn't factor in flatter wickets, faast outfields, higher scoring rates etc.yeah that is what I read about Ian Chappell too. That he would inspire his men to give it all. Quite an attacking captain too
I think any Aussie player from Border's era, bar absolute masochists, would have enjoyed the 1992-95 era more than the 1985-89 era.Of those likely to be picked in the XI, Bradman would get the gig I suppose, but Border's captaincy seemed to get better as he got older. He certainly said he enjoyed having Warne in the side - said those last couple of years were his most enjoyable as captain. In this company, he might have been more aggressive, who knows? Afte the Madras tied test, he only ever declared again at Customs.
On the other hand you would think Border would be happy to play under BradmanNot sure how Bradman would have taken being captained by someone as fully in control and officious as AB or "Captain Grumpy" as they called him.
I don't know how RP was on man management but never happy with his bowling changes or use of his bowlers. Well behind Taylor and Waugh for mineAs an Englishman I have always been impressed with what AB did after the Aussies reached such a low point in the early 1980's. He gave them a real grit and determination that seems to have laid the foundations for such a golden era in more recent years. But would he have suited the all conquering teams in more recent times? Hard to say.
For me though, Ricky Ponting is not getting the credit he deserves. The records just stacked up wildly under his leadership and I can't believe it's purely down to team selection.
Do you think it would be fair to say that Waugh had more at his disposal though? I can remember he and his twin brother both knocking over quite a few wickets with the ball and the likes of Michael Bevan doing the same useful job when there was a need to try a different approach. Has RP had the same resources? I don't think so but I'm working from memory and from a neutral point of view. Perhaps some of our Aussie friends will tell me otherwise.I don't know how RP was on man management but never happy with his bowling changes or use of his bowlers. No he took over a declining team still was never impressed with his bowling changes. Sometimes the Aussies would be struggling for hours to obtain a breakthrough and he would just keep rotating the same four bowlersDo you think it would be fair to say that Waugh had more at his disposal though?
