I posted a more in depth link explaining the cultural significance. And it turns orangish once it starts to fade, and that's the state in which her's is in, in the picture. Of course, it looks best at the time that it's been put on (as per the pic I posted).

It's incredible how the Mehndi designs have evolved.When you look at your mothers and aunts,it was simple,now it's all extravagant.Hard to tell the differnce between Mehndi and Tattoos tbh.The only difference is that Mehndi is a girl only thing,so when you see it on a sub-continent girl you know what it is.If a guy puts on the extravagant designs it would probably be confused with a tattoo.

Reckon that looks awesome TBH. Just have a weird thing about women with markings on their arms (I don't like heavily tatted girls either). I am Persian and lots of our brides use Henna too so please don't construe it as me offending your culture.

Yeah exactly, and it's become wide spread as well. I am actually quite surprised that a few CWers here haven't heard about or seen it before.

No no, I am not. I recall you being Persian in fact, so I knew you must've been familiar with it. I think it's a matter of each to his/her own.

Personally I am not fond of it myself (especially the smell of fresh mehndi, which isn't appealing to my senses), but I find the detailed work and designs quite awesome.

The designs themselves are actually very pretty. I just find it weird to see it on a girl. I don't know, something I've never gotten used to. Also, the smell, as you say.

Reminds me of an incident when a relative of mine had got a tattoo and another elderly woman poked at it the same day, she called him a girl when he screamed, said she used to do henna all the time in her youth and didn't scream out when someone touched it.
