***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2010/11

One of the more strange days this season in the Shield.

NSW and Tasmania is the most remarkable looking scorecard at the end of the day. For NSW to be bowled out for 74 and then Tasmania reach 2/204 at the end of play is funny enough. That Nick Kruger has scored 124 runs is even stranger. A very tough situation for Pat Cummins to make his debut in. Good luck to him for the rest of the innings.

Victoria somehow made it to 342. An 82 wicket last-wicket stand killing South Australia. I am interested to see how Jayde Herrick goes after his Wellington experience and reading Jack's knowledge of his bowling style. A very good opportunity for a bowl-off between Herrick and Happy Gilmour. A look at the future of Victorian bowling once some of our older brigade have retired.

In Perth not much to note other than another one-man show from James Hopes. I am most interested in how Junior McDermott bowls in his second first-class game. My favourite of the non Victorian bowlers. I don't buy into Arthur's comments that a major cull of the Western Australian squad will occur. They will cut some of the fringe players, but the real issue is the lack of output from established players like North, Voges, Pomersbach and Ronchi. No way will WA cut any of those names, unless a young-kid is screaming for selection then they will remain. I know Michael Johnson is getting a game over Ronchi today, but does anyone believe that Johnson is a better player or has potential to be a better player than Ronchi? Not me.

Sounds fair enough which is why I reckon it won't go that way. History suggests WA's cuts to their squad will be many, deep, brutal and sometimes illogical. WACA manages to alienate just about every former player no matter how great they were.

Harris going out hard against the Vics early, great stuff. Have said for a while he should throw off the shackles and I reckon his T20 batting had an impact here.

Massive innings by Harris. It's nice to see a young opener who takes great care to conserve his wicket. Shame that Beaton didn't make any runs, I quite like him.

How good are Chris Lynn and Nic Maddinson?

We've seen the likes of Hughes come in as young gun batsman bu he has obvious flaws. I'm just interested to see where the next Ponting or S. Waugh is going to come from.

Would it be safe to say these 2 are the best under-21 batsman in Aus. Also what type of batsman are they and do they have the ability to succeed all over the world (battying style and technique on different types of pitches) in test cricket.

Mark Waugh thinks Maddinson is better technically than Clarke was at the same age. That's basically all I know about him.

And we shouldn't be looking for the next Ponting. The thing about once-in-a-generation player is that, well, they don't come around very often. Aim lower. Look for the next Hussey or Clarke first.

Coulter-Nile with eight wickets in the match. Decent effort, Western Australia will need him with the retirement of Brett Dorey.

Respect for Brett Dorey too. I think some of his comments within the Cricinfo article sum up his career nicely. . Seven first class seasons (and one of Australia's best performing FC bowlers during that time) and a stint in the Australian ODI setup is not bad for a bowler who didn't debut until his mid-20's.

Had an injury or two gone his way he could very easily have played some Test cricket and likely performed well. Always thought the same about Joe Dawes too.

Yeah, fair point. Ponting is aiming a bit high.

Because the next lot are obviously...S.Marsh, Khawaja and Ferguson so lets see how they go.

Coulter-Nile is certainly a bowler who I'm keeping an eye on for further honours. I was pretty pissed off the WA selectors opted for Sajid Mahmood and Mick Lewis in the Big Bash.

NCN has been making handy runs with the bat recently too, so at 23 he has a big future ahead of him.

Harris (again) playing a lone hand against Vic, reckon the SA selectors will finally give up on batting Manou in the top-6. The line-up is missing Klinger's steadying hand big time too.

It's not often that you will take 5/75 and make 148 runs in a match and end up on the losing side.

Hopes has been in incredible form recently.
