They didn't beat me, I didn't play. :)

Being 6/36 really hurt their chances, no team where 4 of the top 6 get blobs deserves to beat anyone. If QLD went down with the injuries they had, would have been a (awesome) tragedy.

Honestly, if 120 runs and 8 wickets in a match can't get you man of the match then nothing can.

Still, nice to see the debutant get some runs and a MotM under his belt.

Matty Wade just gets better and better with the bat, cant see how the aussie selectors can overlook him for future series, in his current great form. Has a record which leaves Paine in the dust, and Paine aint getting no big scores for Tassie, doesnt he have only one ton? Wade has 3 this season! Averages over 40 with the bat in FC cricket, massive talent, i'd say he isnt much short of Gilly's batting talent at a similar stage of the FC careers.

Would anyone at the start of the Sheffield Shield season expect Rob Quiney to be leading the run-scoring and Luke Butteworth to be leading the wicket-taking at this stage of the season?

Wouldn't have been that surprised at the start of the season if you told me it'd happen, tbh. Butterworth has been epic with the ball for a couple of seasons now and I've always had a lot of faith in Quiney.

But Paine is a future captain!

I'm sorry

It's the most bizarre thing though. Precisely what leadership qualities has Paine showed thus far...?

What had White done in his career to warrant playing as a specialist spinner in India?

The Australian Management doesn't need to make sense, just agree with it, blindly.

I have to agree that getting Wade into the ODI setup would be excellent. I'm happy to hear Australia are sending an A team to Zimbabwe during our winter, it would be a perfect opportunity for him.

Great move actually having said trip, can't wait to see what squad we come up with.

Agree on Wade being a better bat than Paine, he just needs a really big shield season to make it obvious to all concerned. Paine looks the better keeper at this stage though tbh

I love Paine's technique but it's utterly inexplicable - and not very acceptable - that he's made one first class ton.

Hahaha.

Wade is clearly a supreme talent, having watched a fair bit of him recently, I'd say he has the runs on the board to be the next in line behind Paine, tidy keeper too. And he's an Eastern Stater.

Sadly I think favour has fallen for Ronchi. I'm a big Ronchi fan, he had a bad season 2 years ago and got dropped from the contract list, but he's an excellent keeper and a rare talent with the bat, if slightly braindead with his shot selection.

Also it looks like Graham Manou has conceded he's never going to play for Australia again, the only nice way I can say this is that his physical condition currently looks "comfortable"

Ronchi is having a terrible season with the bat. I don't believe he would ever make it at International level. Very loose technique that would be destroyed by any decent bowling attack.

I think his season has been reasonable, too many low scores and stupid shots interspersed with better scores and ridiculous shots. Probably no real orphan there to be fair.

The bar for batsman/keepers is set pretty high these days, following the success of their predecessors (Marsh, Healy and Gilchrist all got progressively better batsman). Sadly so for players like Manou as he has improved his batsmanship each season since he started, but now averages 26 in first class cricket. Yet his keeping is of a high quality.

Arthurs will cut ronchi he is a substandard player.
Anyone noted beer has gone off the boil no srilanka tour for him.

No I've not noted. He just seems to be performing at a similar level to what got him into the Test team.

I wouldn't call Ronchi substandard at this level, but this IS his level. Wouldn't be surprised if Arthurs swings the axe, he's heading that way already, especially with the embarrassing most recent Shield outing.

Don't think Beer is bowling badly, he's just not penetrating, as someone previously mentioned he's probably bowling the same way as he did to get into the test team. He's probably still a bit raw. This country is just a gravesite for finger spinners, averages are clearly irrelevant in selection criteria otherwise Hauritz would be back in the team.

Nathan Lyon, the next big thing in finger spin, just don't let Jenner near him whatever you do.
