Misbah is definitely the rock in the Pakistan team. He could be the difference in them crashing out early or going deep into the tournament.

It is a practice match to be fair, you wouldn't expect them to be completely switched on.
Why bother even turning up if you aren't switched on, the Indian game should have been sort of a wake-up call for many of these middle order bats but apparently nothing much has changed since the last game.

We're never switched on for tour matches/warmup matches. Don't like it, but that's how it is.

Anyway, I'm less fussed about it then most here. Watson obviously got a good one, two runouts and a howler make things a bit hard to establish. It's good to see Ponting facing balls and Clarke looking reasonably fluent.

I agree that our batting performances are only likely to improve during the worldcup, but that would be because we would be playing on flat decks and not because any of the batsmen would be trying any harder than they are now.

I'd not expect three genuine gift wickets of specialist bats per game tbh.

You meant the opposite, right ?
No... what I meant was we are playing with 11 guys whereas the Saffers are using their whole squad.

Alright... so we have been bowled out for 217 and once again we failed to bat the 50 overs!!

Oh okay. I think Australia should be able to defend this (or at least stretch South Africa to the limit), if the pitch is anything like the one we saw in the India-Australia game.

Hope South Africa win this by eight wickets. Then they can pretend they were planning to bat Botha and Peterson at 5 and 6.

On one hand, you ask for them to be switched on, and then on the other you say its nonsense to play with only the 11 players?

Surely, if they want to be switched on, you are better off playing with 11 and treating it as a proper game at least on your side, rather than filling it up with 13-15 players, which is at least subconsciously going to affect how the players treat the game itself.

Another reason to take results from this with a grain of salt. You generally don't face 6 or 7 specialist bowlers in a match...

I can see South Africa reaching this total very comfortably about 3 down and say 8 overs to spare.

Yeah... Krezja, Smith and Dussey all to wreck havock with the ball during the middle overs...

True. On the other hand, Australia might not have reached 200 if Botha and Parnell hadn't bowled.
