Not really, considering none of those have dominated their field, let alone dominated the sport like Bradman did.Applies also to Warne and Lillee vis-à-vis Imran and Hadlee?

Remember we are talking about this forum only. And evidence suggests the exact opposite. In the post you quote I obviously thought the poster in question was referring to Tendulkar as an overall player; but he was merely talking him up as a batsman. FTR, I find it just as annoying having to hear that Tendulkar isn't overrated. You're almost never going to hear people seriously say Viv Richards, Lara, Ponting or Warne are better players than Bradman...but you do hear people saying that with Tendulkar, and with a straight face. That says it all, really.
awta so much.this pseudo-elitist anti-sachin brigade that's beginning to form is quite a bit more annoying than the mythical sachin is th best ever brigade that's trotted out as a strawman.

Actually I meant to respond to his point about how Sobers, Hammond etc are better cricketers even if not better batsmen than Tendulkar. Not really, considering none of those have dominated their field, let alone dominated the sport like Bradman did.
Not in that sense, no. Putting my own bias aside, I can understand Warne being so high. Warne is a player that comes once every several life-times There are 2, at most 3, players in the history of the game that can even compare to him merely on his spin-bowling alone - let alone his slip fielding, leadership and influence on the game. Batsmen like Tendulkar appear every decade pretty much. His batting is amongst the best, after Bradman, but on it's own it is not enough for the kind of praise he receives. He was an all-time great bat and...?
Ah I see. Interesting question.Actually I meant to respond to his point about how Sobers, Hammond etc are better cricketers even if not better batsmen than Tendulkar.
Not going to go down the road of assessing Warne himself. Only showing you evidence that some CW posters do rank Warne above Bradman there, while none do that to Tendulkar. And you said exact opposite. Want to retract your words? Not in that sense, no. Putting by own bias aside, I can understand Warne being so high. I didn't know you were referring to that; I thought you were only referring to Warne's position in relation to Tendulkar's. I don't know who voted Warne as #1, but I imagine it may have been taking the piss somewhat or a tactical vote (that happens a lot) - I think someone didn't even vote for Bradman in that poll. And let's be honest...no one talks about such a thing here - I don't recall the person coming out and actually arguing Warne > Bradman. Yet you have people coming on this forum opening threads actually questioning why Bradman is better than Tendulkar - it's happened several times. Not going to go down the road of assessing Warne himself. Only showing you evidence that some CW posters do rank Warne above Bradman there, while none do that to Tendulkar. And you said exact opposite. Want to retract your words?
awtaI know there are many out their who think Tendulkar is the greatest thing to have happened to cricket. I have myself argued long hours with friends who think Bradman has averages 100 because he was playing **** bowlers.
But again, the topic is about CW posters. And the regulars at CW have no illusions regarding Tendulkar's status with respect to Bradman or Sobers.
Agreed (with all of it).Statsguru comparisons aren't in vogue lately, they've always been the CW way.
I'm not a stats guy but also not as stupidly anti-stats as some (I believe the numbers are important but shouldn't be used as the sole basis for an argument). I struggle with the concept of labelling a player overrated based purely off his numbers. I don't think you have to have watched a player to form an opinion but research should extend beyond filtering their averages if you want to declare widely held ATGs as overrated. Challenging the status quo is good but not without multiple layers of information backing up your opinion.
EDIT - Vcs, only the first sentence was a reply to you
Haha, he's not close to Ponting as a player? Really? Oh dear.See, exhibit A above.
Tendulkar may (debatable) be better than Sobers, Kallis, Ponting or Hammond, as some examples, as a batsman, but as a player he is not close.
Forget overrating, no-one even rates Ishant Sharma on here.Ishant Sharma (He's not a once-in-a-lifetime talent because he beat Ponting thrice, srsly)
Haha, he's not close to Ponting as a player? Really? Oh dear.
leadership ? excuse me ? how many tests/ODIs did he captain ?Not in that sense, no. Putting my own bias aside, I can understand Warne being so high. I know we are talking about opinions on this forum but obviously opinions from elsewhere permeate through to here.
Ponting: Captaincy, Batting, Fielding.Haha, he's not close to Ponting as a player? Really? Oh dear.
Warne is one of the best slip fielders of all-time. Tendulkar is what? Merely good?leadership ? excuse me ? how many tests/ODIs did he captain ?
slip fielding ? good fielder, so is sachin ..
You are pretty much ignorant on the the influence sachin has had on cricket and pretty much almost everything else regarding him I should say
