So what?Yes but his record against Pakistan is not good. In 20 tests he averages less than 35 IIRC.

A gaping hole in his resume. So what?
Should it really diminish from all his other feats though? It sounds like spotting one weakness in his record and discounting it against all the other positives. Steve Waugh didn't have a great record against Pakistan, but he was hardly a failure. Rawalpindi in 1998 must surely be one of Steve Waugh's finest innings.A gaping hole in his resume.
Hello???? I think we are comparing him to AB here???Should it really diminish from all his other feats though? Even small holes in his record become significant when comparing to a batsman of such calibre though.Should it really diminish from all his other feats though? An early example of the creature "Analysis by checklist" – 'twas the beginning of the end...Yes but his record against Pakistan is not good. In 20 tests he averages less than 35 IIRC.
And like you said the other week, Waugh averaging below 40 in his first sixty Tests shouldn't be completely ignored. Border was a 50-bat throughout more or less.Border. Carried a weak lineup, and had success higher up the order when called up unlike Waugh. Overall, just had a tougher job to do.
Lol is this a parody? CW analysis by checklist taken to the extremeAmazing players. Would be so great at 5 and 6 in a 1980-2000 Aussie team. (G.Ghappell will be the obvious choice in the middle order. Mark Waugh and Dean Jones to fight for the other slot. Taylor and Boon to open).
Both were fighters. Batted superbly with the tail. Did well in all conditions. Had superior records away form home. Scored lots and lots of centuries and half centuries.
I would go for Border because his record is well rounded. Steve Waugh struggled in SL. And didnt do well against Pakistan at home. There are no such obvious chinks in AB's resume. His SA record is too late inn his career to be reflective of his ability. Loved both. but choosing AB over anyone is natural for me.
And about his record in SL?Guys Steve Waugh has a great weakness; everything just disappears when he faces Pakistan at home.
