Cricketer Of The Year
Clarke
Apparently he got the rules wrong, he thought England couldn't change bowlers once he called the powerplay and Strauss and the umpire were telling him they could bowl who they liked. He said he'd learned a a few new rules tonight when Sky interviewed him about what was happening out there. As impressive as today's win was, I hope some harsh realities aren't just ignored and swept under the carpet. First thing first, this is the 4th time England have batted first in this series and their much maligned batting line-up still has managed to score 290 plus on three out of four ocassions, now that's obviously points at the fact that the bowling has been nothing short of woeful at times and likes of Lee, Dougeh, Hastings and Johnson need to do some work before the worldcup.
Batting is starting to look good but still form of Haddin and White remain a concern, Haddin just keeps batting like a maverick whereas White is struggling to get his big shots away though it doesn't seem like he is too far from regaining his best form.
Also despite all my criticism of Clarke, I was hugely impressed with his innings and the way he carried himself out there, he played with freedom backed his natural ability and that's how most Australian fans would like to see him bat. Also liked the way he took on Strauss and Anderson, he has often backed down whenever the opposition has had a go at him but tonight he was hugely impressive with everything he did.
Even though I don't like putting the blame at any one person, those 2 overs, when Anderson came back, lost England the game imo. He seemed to be bowling off a longer run up than normal and he didn't look his usual self, with no rhythm and lost his accuracy. If he'd have only gone for about 60, , England should have won. I hope he's got this rubbish performance out of his system because tbf to him it's rare he bowls badlyClarke plays his first innings at a SR of >100 for a year and everything he's done in the last 3 years becomes 'playing the situation'. My ass.
Good knock today but has got a long way to go before he can be considered anything more than an average ODI player again IMO.
Joke stuff from England though, pathetic really
Geez with a bowling line-up of Anderson/Finn/Woakes/Yardy/Collingwood, England will need 500.
Those three overs of the powerplay basically won us the game. The RRR was 8.5+ before than, it was a run a ball after and in most cases you win those.Even though I don't like putting the blame at any one person, those 2 overs, when Anderson came back, lost England the game imo. That's because, like me, you were sitting amongst the Barmy ArmyReckon I've heard it a bit at all the grounds. Got booed in the Sydney Test.
311 at 62.2 with strike rate of 86 with three 50s and not outs. Inflated slightly but certainly picked on more form than Dussey. Christian 375 at 53.57 at a strike rate of 125 with a 100 and two 50s. It's either they don't want to stuff SA up anymore by taking another player away from them or they are still picking batsmen that bowl spin.Has Voges really in good form? Christian shouldve gotten a go for sure.
It's madness.Don't agree with the rationale with resting Clarke either. Especially now that he's finally hitting his straps.
