How do you guys feel about top order batsmen and middle order batsmen with regard to stats?

I personally think it's easier for an ODI batsman to have a higher average if he plays in the middle order, where field restrictions are lifted, and singles are easy to take. Look at Michael Clarke's stats.
By the way Francis.......I must say that I might not agree with you on many occasions but I do feel that you should post more. You could have written great bios for most cricketers for this thread........

NUFAN mate congratulations on a job well done. It was a thoroughly enjoyable exercise. Wasim and McGrath got rated as the best ODI bowlers and Viv and Tendy as the best batsmen. Wonderful exercise.

I think it's fairly even, but I would probably lean towards opening bats. Openers get more reward for shots and get an opportunity to build an innings. Middle order bats are more likely to get not out obviously, but I think the opportunity to build an innings and help out your average significantly with a big score outweighs the chance to finish not out.

There are cases for and against both though, it's an interesting question.

Yeah no worries at all. It was fun to do.

There is no way that I would be batting Dhoni ahead of Jones and even Kallis..
Yeah agreed, was struggling to think of a #3 in that lineup so just shunted Dhoni there.

Top 3 are so clear of the no 4 and of each other in terms of points earned!

Got the top 2 on target 8-)

Even I noted that...........

another question. Why do batsmen generally get more admired (for the lack of a better word) or capture the imagination of the public more than a bowler????

Said this at the start of the exercise ,and will reiterate that Knowing his reputation and rating on CW specifically will be very surprised if Viv Richards is not no.1 here.

Though i may not necessarily agree with it.

Was pretty sure Viv was going to be the first here.

In any case it is i got the top 2 Right, but had them the other way round.

Bowlers ball only 10 overs in a ODI probably and generally are more injury plagued and have shorter careers.

It is a different case in test ratings here though.

Tbf, The top 10 is split between 5 ATG bowlers and 5 ATG batsman.

I thought the countdown could have been more prolonged, IMO, like a slow buildup to the WC. But great work, NUFAN.

Yeah but the top 2 are batsmen and by a big big margin.

What is the difference in the test ratings. Even there the likes of Bradman (hard to argue with that) then Sobers, Sutcliffe, hobbs, Richards, Tendy are always hogging the limelight while people like Hadlee, McGrath, and Ambrose don't really get talked about as often. I really think fast bowling is back breaking work and a very difficult and demanding art.

really/???? you find batting a tougher art than bowling??

I was always under the impression that batting was an easier art.
Nope. Importance of one is questionable (like batting vs. bowling) but batting is more difficult art. One major reason why, batting is more risky.

You act like batting for long periods in any weather isn't?

But really, Bradman is a myth. I mean just imagine a guy with an average of 100 runs per innings. Not real. It's a hoax just like Neil Armstrong and his trip to the moon.
