Poor move.

James, with all due respect (which tbf is probably little), you don't actually read the forum regularly and you don't understand the tone of discussions and relationships with certain posters.

You can say that there has been input from other moderators, but I know for a fact you were pushing this crackdown more than any of them.

Because of your dearth of involvement in the forum, realistically for the good of the forum you shouldn't actually be a moderator. But I understand as owner you want to be.

Infract me, doesn't bother me. But it's true.
With all due respect, you appear to have some sort of vendetta against James and his moderation. Firstly, as James has said, this whole thing was started as a response to an email from a past moderator. Hell, three other mods agreed with the suggestions before James even posted in the thread.

Think Fusion has summed it up well here. This isn't at all meant to be a crackdown or anything; it's an effort by the mod team to make moderation a lot more consistent. We've received a lot of feedback in the past about people commenting that punishment for Poster X doesn't match the punishment for Poster Y. This is being brought in to make that all a lot clearer.

The system as it stands, generally goes as such: people report a post, the mods look at it, discuss whether a punishment is needed, and then discuss what it is. People are in different time zones, and often reluctant to act without some sort of consensus, so by the time a punishment's actually been handed out, the offense could have been a week ago. This makes it a lot easier to act on an offense in a much more timely manner.

We're not trying to cut down on the banter either, just make it a bit more family friendly. After all the forum has long been a 'family forum,' but recently the atmosphere has seemed to move a bit away from it. Sometimes you'd be reading a thread in the Ashes sub-forum and there'd be a **** every second post.

Bear in mind, this thread has been created to generate discussion and input on the issue. If you guys do have constructive input, or past experience with the system, please let us know.

Agree with this. I felt the line between witty banter and crass stupidity was crossed all too frequently in the Ashes threads. Not that it'd ever stop me from posting, but I can easily believe that it could be the differentiator between a reader deciding to join and post or going elsewhere.

And adding to this, it did seem from the outside like a couple of people were reprimanded and banned over it, but others weren't whilst an Infraction policy should have ensured more consistency and, more importantly, nipped it in the bud.

With all due respect, you appear to have some sort of vendetta against James and his moderation, and have fairly little idea what it is you're talking about. Firstly, as James has said, this whole thing was started as a response to an email from a past moderator. Hell, three other mods agreed with the suggestions before James even posted in the thread. .
Again, with due respect... and again, little... I know more than you think I know. You think just because you post in the moderator forum I don't know what is said? Quite naiive tstl.

I don't care if it's James or anyone else... was only saying the other day that the forum's moderation has been the best it's been since I've been a member at CW, and that's because the moderators are actually active and have some idea about the feel of the place.

James, who isn't active, will not be able to get a good feel of the place. That's not a slight on the person, it's just a fact. It was the same as looney bob when he was moderator.

James wanted to ban me the other day, that's common knowledge, so it's obvious he has been a large driver of getting rid of the '****' banter.

By saying that the forum has degenerated are you saying that you and your fellow moderators have failed? Ofcourse you're saying that, and personally I think you're wrong because it's been better moderation than ever before.

Also, a massive lol at the family forum rubbish. If it's a family forum, why do moderators always tell people to 'grow up'? Most ridiculous piece of terminology on le internet.

Summing up, I will not be changing my posting style. If you infract me until I'm banned, so be it.

On second thought I guess I will just observe how the system works and comment later. I might not mind it when I see how it all works.

If true, this is a good point. I'm not getting involved in this vendetta stuff or whatever it is but I think moderators should be active. I don't know if James lurks on the forum or not, but if he doesn't then I think he should at least read the forum regularly.

A bit bizarre that this has suddenly become about me, but anyway.

For the record, I do lurk an awful lot, but just don't post much.

I don't believe I've ever forced a decision through on the moderator team that's had universal disapproval amongst them. This infraction system is apart of that and has seen discussion over many months between many moderators that have both come and gone during that time. If one of the moderators tells you something different there, I'd be very surprised.

At the same time I think you know less than you think you do. So we'll call it even.

A lot of people, both mods and non-mods, have been behind the banter thing. And let me stress, it's more just an effort to cut back on it. Reading through the Ashes sub-forum was seriously cringeworthy at times. That's why this thread was created rather than just stickying a locked thread; we want some constructive criticism and suggestions before we bring this in.

The main reason I've been behind the change is that in the past, people have been banned and left wondering firstly, why they were banned, and secondly, why they were banned for so long. This should clear a lot of that up.

James posts a fair bit, a lot of it has to do with the site however.

Anyway, I think if used consistently, the infraction system will do good. I do agree, however, that the moderation system is inconsistent - that's why I made those multis - because I got a permaban for something that wasn't that serious and had never got a warning before. Plus, I was a 13 year old ****wit back then.

As long as a mod doesn't have a vendetta against a member or break rules and warns/bans members for doing the same thing, they're qualified enough to make tough moderation decisions, imo.

Fair enough.

But I will repeat, just in case it was lost in all the posts about James on the other page, that I don't think this system will work and infracting banter for swearing is a poor call.
