Our lineup's fairly injured too, but yeah your bowling attack's disgraceful.Bloody hell, no Swann, Anderson or Broad? 7-0?
Shazhad's decent tbh.Good job it isn't serious. When Michael Yardy is your best bowler you know things are up.
Bresnan and Tremlett aren't too bad either, they obviously are gonna miss Swann but they have Anderson coming back after the 3rd game, so its not exactly all doom and gloom for them.Shazhad's decent tbh.
However yeah there could be a few blokes played back into form in the next few weeks...
Hilfenhaus would've played.Mate, he'd played 5 consecutive Ashes Tests bowling a truckload of overs, flew to Aus and back in the space of a few days in the middle of that to boot. The guy deserves some rest after everything he's done for the side in the last 12 months, giving him 3 days off for the 2 T20s doesn't exactly give him much chance to put his feet up and spend some time with his newly born kid does it?
He's going to be needed to lead the attack at the World Cup, which is more important than this series and spending time with your new family is far more important than cricket.
He's still going to play 4 games before the World Cup which is basically the length of a standard series anyway.
But yeah, I much prefer the idea of running him into the ground and preventing him from spending some time with his new family.
Indeed. He's even worse at one day cricket than he is Test cricket. And gone wicketless.
The question really is, who cares? ODI cricket outside of the world cup is generally meaningless these days. Wouldn't be surprised in a year or 2 if we start seeing second XIs playing against each other (we saw this in a recent India-Australia series) with players resting between test/IPL cricket which might just be the only way that this game will be finally put out to pastureIt's looking more and more of a stupid idea to rest Anderson from the early ODIs as well as the Twenty20s. The two 20-over matches should have been plenty enough, we're now left in a situation where we have no half-decent fully-fit ODI bowlers for the next two games (IIRC). Hopefully Shahzad will continue to show his promise, and our batsmen can snatch a win to keep England in with at least a chance of winning the series. Not ideal World Cup preperation either way.
Nah, whilst it's not good in terms of our chances of winning the series, we've really only got 3 ODI quality bowlers in Swann, Anderson and Broad. We might get caned badly in this series but if one of our back up bowlers really stands up and performs the way Anderson himself did in 2003, then it stands us in good stead for the World Cup, which is more important. It's looking more and more of a stupid idea to rest Anderson from the early ODIs as well as the Twenty20s. Anderson and Broad are quality bowlers? I know that the grass is always greener on the other side and whilst I have no doubt that Anderson and Broad are better than Bresnan and Tremlett, have you ever seen the 2 of them bowl in ODI cricket? Only Swann stands up when it comes to being a good ODI bowler, the rest are serviceable at best. We got one quality bowler, one quality batsman in Morgan and then some serviceable players (maybe some like Bell and Pietersen have the potential to raise their game). My personal belief is that in LOI, any team can be competitive if they are lightening in the field and that is what we are seeing at the moment.Nah, whilst it's not good in terms of our chances of winning the series, we've really only got 3 ODI quality bowlers in Swann, Anderson and Broad.
