*Official* - Pakistan in New Zealand 2010/2011

Guptill can't do that and Guptill's record in Asia is awful. Just open the attack with SLAs and watch him capitulate over the course of 30 balls.

It's a wonder that Williamson scores any runs if he can't get singles or hit boundaries.
Williamson can get singles and boundaries, but not often enough to be much use in ODIs.

Yeah, Guptill has a terrible record on the subcontinent in ODIs, just like the rest of the batsmen. Doesn't mean Williamson, who also has a terrible record in ODIs on the subcontinent at a terrible strike rate (barring one century against Bangladesh) is a better option.

Besides, I'd much rather Ryder in the middle order where he belongs. Guptill plays and opens imo.

That's because NZ doesn't produce spinners.

And I still reckon Todd Astle is a far more threatening bowler. He actually turns it and has variations other than flight for a start.
Are you basing this one the two overs in a T20 you saw?

Yes. It is a bit of a tumtum I know. I admit part of the reason I'm hyping him up because I bowl (rank) leg breaks myself, but seriously, he looked the goods and I could see why he is dominating FC cricket. Astle does appear to know what he is doing, unlike some other second spinners we've selected before. Bahnz was jizzing himself, and we know that if Bahnz is jizzing himself over someone who isn't Wellingtonian then the player is either gun or Bahnz was just drunk.

And Astle actually turns the ball a fair way.

You're basing all that on two overs in a T20 right? I dunno, legspinners can be funny things. Players can take bags of wickets at the domestic level, and get smoked in international cricket (think Brooke Walker). I've got high hopes for him, but without seeing more of him live, it's hard to know. Let's hope he takes a bucket of wickets in the 2nd half of the plunket shield.

As for my rating of young players, the six or seven beers I'd had certainly covers my initial euphoria over Adam Milne in the CL.

Well done Pak team. A series win after LONG time. Hopefully it is the beginning of a new era and the end of the ****ty 00s

The icc needs to look into rating each individaul match. rather than a rating system which places more importance on a series win. thus nulifying boring draws to obtain a series win.

a "series win" doesnt improve your ranking. only a "match win" does"
im not saying this because NZ lost. Im saying it from a spectators point of view.
They do 8-)

109 runs required for sure but it doesn't take long for Pakistan to crumble. We have a history of collapses and by saving the match we were ensured a series victory. That is what mattered. Those same people who are calling for a gutless performance (not only you but many others as well) would have been spitting on Misbah had Pak lost the match in order to go for victory.
I am questioning why was it impossible for them to even try and get 3 singles per over after tea? How much risk does that constitute. Misbah was well settled. And its not like he wasn't taking risks later in the innings...he was still pulling and hooking and so was Shafiq instead of ducking under them. I bet it is a lot less risky to take 3 singles in every over and get an odd boundary every 5 overs than hooking when there was still 15 overs to go.

I would have only spat on Misbah if he had tried chasing when the run rate required was 4-5 runs. but at 3 runs an over its very much a sensible chase.

Southee & Co where bowling well, it wasn't easy to rotate strike for the Pakistanis.
Southee was superb but i disagree that it was tough to take 3 singles in an over from the other end with an odd boundary...playing 6 maidens in a row is just plain baloney.

Not sure what you mean here - presently we have:

Ind - 128
SA - 117
Eng - 115
SL - 109
Aus - 107
Pak - 92
WI - 85
NZ - 76
Ban - 2

Had Pak won 2-0 it'd would've been 94 for them, 74 for NZ - a fair incentive.

Looking forward, a 3-0 England win over SL would move them to 118 and SL to 104, but 1-0 makes it 116 vs 107 - that to me is quite a difference in relative terms.

i see what you are saying. its ralitive to the postion of opposing teams at the time of the match. I suprose the system is fair for everyone in that case.
