Bizarro

Not quite as bad as the Champions Trophy where Hopkins, Patel and Diamanti were the reserves, but still fairly odd.

Lack of wicketkeeping cover for McCullum is the main concern for me, as I think the chance of an injury to McCullum is relatively high. I guess they can fly Mcglashan over. But Jamie How keeping seems like a very bad idea.

Woodcock and Bennett both have been plucked out of a group of players who could just as easily have been chosen. Those options are all a bit meh and I don't know what the rationale was for the particular choices - Woodcock v Nicol and Elliott, Benett v Tuffey and McKay. The problem is that these guys will almost certainly need to play when McCullum, Ryder, vettori, Franklin and Oram get injured!

On radio they're just saying Flynn, Mcglashan and four others will be on standby.

Good point about Elliott. He's still averaging over 32 in ODIs and has never done enough wrong to be tossed into utter obscurity like he has been.

Looks like Mills, Williamson and Woodcock won't play the first ODI v Pakistan, but will be in the frame for the second ODI (initially I misread the article and was thinking wtf, they aren't going to give Woodcock his ODI debut until the World Cup)

Rather of had Lou Vincent as the back up keeper over Jamie How tbh if that is the way they wanted to go. He did just score 150 odd in a domestic one day game.

How the **** did How make it? He was terrible in subcontinent to put it lightly.

If you want reserve wk, why not Mcglashan?

I agree, but I think they had to pick the 15 from the provisional squad of 30, and Vincent didn't make that.

Yep, exactly. I guess How serves as opening back-up as well, but we have plenty of top-order players.

Not Terrible
Yeah McGlashan should have went, or Young if you want to keep him in and around the team setup.

A few selections in the squad really surprising me, not least Jamie How as a reserve wicket-keeper. I also didn't foresee Woodcock being selected - I was happy enough with two specialist spin bowling options so three seems a bit unnecessary, especially given Woodcock's never actually played an ODI and has just one T20 international match to call upon. Had a feeling Tuffey would miss out to someone like Bennett, would've gone with Tuffey myself.

The selection of Bennett is absolutely disgraceful and it amazes me that so few of you have bothered to mention it. Bennett's career 50-over stats are TERRIBLE. Once again, it appears the selectors have actually trawled the country intent on picking the player least equipped to do the job. It boggles the mind.
