Yeah, I've been a massive fan ever since England toured last year but his reputation's proving pretty hard to shake.

He naturally bowls a much better length for one day cricket though. If you're bowling full and you don't get it quite right or even if you just come up against someone seeing it like a football you'll generally go for a lot more than someone bowling just short of a length with the same problems.

It's not just the economy though, he's taking more wickets more often.

Hmm yeah, true. Their career strike rates are pretty negligible but if you remove prank teams the differences are really stark. Against top-8 ODI sides Steyn actually averages over 35 with the ball and goes at 5.57; that's genuinely crap.
