IPL4 Auction

Because Joe Public in Pakistan is far more likely to watch IPL if players from their land were welcomed than if they were excluded for being Pakistani. No?

And as for BCCI (or any cricket board for that matter), their accountability to the country they represent is on very murky ground. BCCI in particular is a federation of cricket associations, which in turn are associations of private cricket clubs. It is most certainly not part of the Indian government and IPL profits made by BCCI do not go to the benefit of the general public but for the benefit of these private clubs. (In theory. Who knows what happens in practice. BCCI is claiming - in a court of law - that it is a private charitable organization!).
How does it matter if they watch or not. As of day, there economy is in shambles. Last time India had a tour all the money PCB got was from Indian companies.
Rather than that, it is their government which should act on terrorism. Even if it means a sporting cut off, no issues. Sports diplomacy has happened many times. nothing concrete has ever worked. Rather now this sports diplomacy "Which they call" is purely coz of a reason that players make money, or wen indian team plays PCB make's money. For selfish reason such diplomacy never work. IPL still will be very exciting in India without pakistani players. We will have equal amount of levels in stadiums with more matches and 2 more teams. I would rather not recommend that option. Sitting in US, you cannot understand what viewpoint is there in Delhi or Mumbai

The auctions don't seem right this time. Many teams had their local star players with them. Now I don't see why Bangalore spectators will cheer for RCB when Dravid plays for RR.

Time an IPL mix gets taken to the cleaners by the second-best English, Lankan, West Indian or Kiwi T20 side?

Let's not forget, Deccan Chargers won the IPL in 2009 on the back of individual performances by imports, only to lose both matches to T&T and Somerset in the CLT20 and crash out.

I absolutely love Bangalore even more now!

Kohli (obviously!) and now Pujara, Dilshan, AB Devilliers, Zaheer (again) :D

Saurabh Tiwary I can give or take. He's a good T20 player, but I don't like watching him play

Imagine being Saurabh Tiwary though. He's now earning $1.6 million for doing sweet **** all in international cricket.

It's going to be challenging to keep Indian youngsters motivated when this sort of money is available DESPITE not doing well in any form of international cricket ever.
A pity they missed out on Badri,Rohit though.

They are going to be among my top 3 teams now certainly along with Mumbai and Delhi.

And if they retain Pandey, they may become number 2 too.

KKR doesn't look all that flash tbh. SRK doesn't know how to do business. He just has a truck load of money to waste lol..

Mumbai took Rohit Sharma OMG that kid is trash

- Sachin Tendulkar (c)
- Davey Jacobs (w)
- Rohit Sharma
- Andrew Symonds
- Kieron Pollard
- filler
- filler
- Harbhajan Singh
- Lasit Malinga
- filler
- filler

looks a pretty boss line up for Mumbai.
Mumbai and Chennai have the best catchment areas for those fillers.

If Mumbait fill those gaps by retaining the likes of Rahane and Rayuddu plus Abdullah ,then they will do well.

Have chance tomorrow to get other players too.

Gautam Gambhir should buy a lottery ticket tonight - of all the players to be first in the auction he had the most to gain from it. Incredible piece of good fortune.

At some level, this war on terrorism is a war for the hearts and minds of the Pakistani people. On one side are the Taliban, LeT and certain elements of the establishment in Pakistan. On the other side is every one who is a real and potential victim of terrorism - includes many people in Pakistan perhaps including some in their establishment, and pretty much all of India and the US that does not profit from being in a state of war. I think most people on this forum are part of the second.

So, it's terribly important to me that the 'soft power' from India - which includes entertainment and hence IPL - has an audience in Pakistan.

And, therefore - it matters little that I live in the US and not in Mumbai.

Dhawal Kulkarni is a good one too. What happened to Kemar Roach? Agarkar?

The only side that is willing to stick to a winning combo and willing to build a fan base is CSK. Have got Mussey, Badri and Ashwin back today.

Mumbai too.

They got the Mumbai boy in Rohit Sharma too ,and will probably get Rahane and Rayuddu back.

Not surprising as these were the 2 teams most in favor of player retentions.

Harbhajan retained over Zaheer was questionable, though. Zaheer's the home player, senior strike bowler and also getting more T20 wickets.

I would have Harbhajan over Zaheer in t20's.

Chennai not retaining Murali was stranger.

Though i guess Murali would have wanted more than being retained for the 3rd/4th spot.
Maybe ZAK too.

Wait, they didn't pick #1 spinner in the world because he didn't have a carrom ball, and thinks the ****ty offspinners with no control that they picked will be harder to hit than Swann?

Hahahahahahahahahaha. The only doubts that article cleared were just in case someone thought the IPL franchises had any cricketing sense.

Too much money, too little sense indeed.

Nah!! They did not pick Swann because off it coinciding with county season, issues with availability and the end coinciding with the Srilanka series, plus a high base price.

They would have only picked him and taken a risk, if they felt he would be really great in T20's in India and have enough variations with off spinners going for big runs in IPL.
