I'm actually really excited about this. Can't wait for it to start!
Me too.

Unfortunately my cynicism about how deeply the corruption runs in Pakistan cricket means I'm not 100% on this series, but I'm still generally looking forward to our batsman v their bowlers and vice versa.

I really think NZ need to win this test series to improve on the good test performances in India and start heading in the right direction. Otherwise what have they learned?

Yeah, me too.
On paper the sides are evenly matched, but with the home advantage NZ should win this series.

Totally agree.

Will be interesting to see if Ryder can keep up his form vs. India against Pakistan as well.

Yea should be an exciting series if Pak batting doesn't keep collapsing.

What time is it starting in NZ? what about GMT?

Also heard rain is the forecast for Friday there...not sure how its looking now....

It starts in just under 4 hours, which is 11am NZ time and 10pm GMT.

After watching New Zealand bat with discipline in India, I'm looking forward to see how they go in their home conditions and in conditions that will certainly be more conducive to some movement. Kane Williamson was very impressive on the flat tracks in India, demonstrating an excellent temperament so look forward to watching him especially.

There is a lot of expectancy around Williamson, I just hope he is allowed to develop without people expecting too much consistency, surely John Wright around the place will help his development.

Will be interesting how Misbah captains, Pakistan had a decent result against SA. but on these more result-orientated pitches his captaincy will be under the microscope.

Roll on 10pm!

John Wright has a fly crawling on his face. Swat it already.
Haha that was annoying me too.

My last comment on the Franklin thing - I definitely would've played him. I think he could be a world class allrounder he backed himself a bit more and wasn't so easy to dent confidence-wise, and he seems to have remarkably actually found some confidence at ODI of late. He's more than proven himself domestically over the last few seasons (ie. he's not a one day specialist being picked on ODI form; he's a genuine First Class performer who has found confidence) and I think he's potentially one of New Zealand's best players. All that said, I don't think it's a disgrace that he's been left out by any means given his Test failures as a batsman and his bowling decline/reluctance. In short, I would've played him without question but I understand why the selectors disagree. Who they've decided to play instead is another issue though.

Well the international-flavoured entrees are finished or just finishing and though some good cricket was played, we know what we've all really been waiting for. It's time for the main event. No more pretenses, no more pre-match hype while you're forced to watch a team compile only 160 in a day or one team relentlessly dominate another.

So time to sit down and tuck into the tasty main course of a whopping two-test series between these exciting and evenly matched sides. Hold onto your seats!

:)
