Hmm, Interesting question......

This is the 1985 Australian side that lost to NZ by an innings & 41 runs when Hadlee went berserk;

KC Wessels
AMJ Hilditch
DC Boon
AR Border*
GM Ritchie
WB Phillips†
GRJ Matthews
GF Lawson
CJ McDermott
DR Gilbert
RG Holland

Do you think that team is stronger on paper than this current Australian line-up ?
No, definitely not. That side had one well established test level batsman in Border. Boon, McDermott and Matthews were just coming to prominence.

You're pissing into the wind there. Was as much applause as booing tbf. You telling me the Poms haven't booed opposition players who've been involved in controversy when they've gone on amd reached a milestone? Sorry mate, you're still asleep and dreaming.
Meh, I was at Headingley in 08 and there were boos for De Villiers but I didn't agree with that. Just because English people might do it doesn't make me a hypocrite. I said I didn't agree with Clarke getting booed the other day.

I would read too much into his series against SA. He was nowhere near as good as he was in 09.

Bet you're one of the muppets who says 'You always know when you've snicked it'.

If he's heard something, but not felt it, then fine by me. No worse than bowlers going for a speculative appeal.
Well I reckon you do know when you've nicked it and he definitiely knew it too

Who reversed it on reconsidering.
After being reviewed by a guy who obviously knew he just edged it. It doesn't matter much to me, game was well over for Aus but I can see how Bell's actions have rubbed people up the wrong way.

So given there were boos in that situation at Headingly, you're saying your own home crowds have no class?

And that side wasnt as bad as the first test 86/87 Ashes, or one of the 87/88 teams vs NZ. Any team with Chris Matthews in it is awful.

I'm amazed as to how a team with a middle order of Ponting/Clarke/Hussey, all averaging close to 50, are labelled as so terrible.

Surely more credit should go to England rather than talking about how pathetic the opposittion are.

Pupwatch: Decent, liked how he kept three attacking men in when Cook was 170-odd. We'll know more when he gets a proper set of bowlers, which could be quite a while. Didn't fall to pieces though, which is encouraging I suppose.
Thought he was decent as well. Hard to judge with bowlers who throw it away.

Keeping in mind they have already been out of form for a while.

It's the mode of dismissals that have repeatedly rocked our batting line up that has meant criticism against Aus rather than complete accolades for England. They've obviously bowled well, but we've batted shockingly

Haha, twisting my words somewhat there

I'm saying some of our supporters have acted without class in the past, yes

Nah he bowled quite well. Bowled with a lot more overspin, resulting in more dismissals to slip/bat-pad etc.

And they've never been out of form before? Players of their calibre and longevity have played themselves into form before.

England have kept them out of form with tight bowling, it's so important not to give them a chance to get away and feel bat on ball. As they're out of form, they get out to shots that look ordinary.

I didn't say England have bowled anything but great tight bowling. But the dismissals themselves have at least 70% of the time been from terrible shots. Whether the tight bowling directly leads to bad shots is another matter, but it remains that Australia have batted far poorly than England have bowled well.

Pretty fantastic day. Some dubious decision making, by umpires and players alike, but that's cricket. The Barmy Army were fantastic once more.

Johnson, Watto and Beer the only of our boys to come out with any respect today. Don't have anything new to say that I haven't said before the series started, which is pretty frustrating.
