Can we stop bowling at Johnson's pads?

Get Jimmeh and Swann on.

FFS sake, Hilfenhaus even jammier than Hussey.

Awful end to the session. On that note I'm off to bed. Fully expecting to wake up and see that Mitchell Johnson has ripped through our top order, that's if we actually manage to end this partnership.

I can't get my head around why teams do this, especially when they have bowled so well with line and length, this bowling seems to confuse the bowlers to be honest and why no yorkers .

This. It's astonishing how teams so often completely lose the plot against tailenders.

Ironically whilst that criticism of Tremlett is perfectly valid, Bresnan's fault has been bowling far too well.

Right i've decided to calm down.

We've taken 4 wickets this morning, and it's not as if the Ashes are riding on this :)

None of the English bowlers bowl a really top yorker and with the tail having a swing, could go for plenty if they try the killer every couple of balls. Also, they've got the Aussies 8 down for 230, you don't just abandon completely what got you there in the first place if it's working and you're still drawing edges.

That said, an occasional yorker might be worth a shot.

Yorkers don't get the job done against the tail very often these days. Not normally a terrible idea but at the same time it's not some kind of magic formula that'll stop crappy tail-end batsmen from scrounging together these dodgy partnerships. Australia tried to york Dale Steyn repeatedly during his infamous 76 at the MCG. Bowling to hit the top of off is usually better.

Things I'd change though- always have a third man and don't give a batsman the single unless he's not going to take it. But always give the batsman the single if he isn't going to take it. The criticism of captains for setting the field back is so silly when the batsman isn't taking the single. Why would he have men in position to save runs the batsman won't even go for?
