Mate, I can't tell if you're taking the piss or not with your 'more knowledgeables' thing.

I never brought Anderson V SA into anything...it was Broad who I felt was our best seamer over there.

In this series though, he's been world-class. As I say, it's one of the best away series a bowler visiting Australia has had this century, and he's had to play a longer series.

I try to keep the enjoyment I derive from the game separate from my rating of the players of the game. I'm not immune to biases but I try my best.

Yes, Anderson indeed has been awesome against Oz and SA. Awesome enough to average 29 and 31 which is world-class. But good enough to be better than a bowler who averages 22 and 23 against those sides in the same year? Even accounting for all the intangibles more knowledgeable cricket fans like you can pass better judgement on, I don't think so.

A similar approach with Swanneh, for me. Is he world class and the best spinner in the world? Undoubtedly. Is he good enough to be a 25-average bowler against decent opposition? I don't think so.
Yeah, I agree. Comparing a guy who's played 4 Tests at home and 2 away with someone who's played 9 away from home is a completely fair way of looking at things.

People realize that, if the assertion of being 'expected' to do well on 'home wickets' regardless of what they were held true, no visiting side would ever win test match because every Test nation would prepare roads and all would yield results because the home seamers apparently have this magic advantage and would average 20 while the opposition averages 40...

My definition of performance is an extremely stat-reliant one tbh.
Ah man come on. I understand the PrinceEWS/Thierry Henry argument that too many people on CW discard stats and take into account aesthetics, but that's going too far.

You need a much bigger sample size before you can assign that level of importance to stats.

Maybe that's what's happened in the last decade..

Hmm, doubtful since a lot of teams have actually started winning overseas it seems, more than before. I wonder what the stats are, and if that's actually true. Obviously my perception of India might color an overall trend going in the other direction.

Kallis looking for his 39th century. Wouldn't be surprised if he pushes an average of 60 soon if he continues in this form.

You actually went and worked that out......seriously?
It's not that complicated tbh, the way he did it.

Kallis has an average of 56.41 over 244 innings. We'll assign a span of 20 innings, and let A represent the average required over those 20 innings. Now the equation is simple -

[ (244/264) x 56.41 ] + [ A x (20/264) ] = 60

Now solve for A. Although he seems to be incorrect, as according to my calculations Kallis will need to score at an average of just under 104 over the next 20 innings. However, even with an average of 97 over the next 20 innings, he'll be looking at an overall average of around 59.5. Close enough :p

His average atm is actually 56.80 given that he is 81* at the moment. If he were to get a big hundred/double hundred it will go over 57 which is pretty incredible when you have close to 12000 runs.

Should be Kuhn but maybe Gary Kirsten will continue with Bouch. Just think it will be a good time post WC to relieve Smith of the captaincy and pension Bouch.

Smith is giving up ODI captaincy after the WC but wants to continue in tests. The new coach may take a stand against him, especially if he remains out of form with the bat.
