Though It's good to see some Sreesanth love, Let's not get carried away here.

Nah, the team cannot carry bowlers like the present Sreesanth even if you have 2 world-class bowlers playing for you. He has bowled well two times in the past one year. Once to Oz's tail in B'lore 5th day, once y'day. He is not inconsistent yet delivers overall like say, Johnson. Atm, He is just the worst kind of bowler imaginable. Erratic, expensive and unpenetrative.

I think us carrying Sharma too make him (along with Sree) look a little better than they actually are. No way should Sreesanth be in the test team atm based on performance. He obv should play the next game because he bowled well in Durban but the only time he deserved a game was against Oz (Both in Mohali and B'lore), carrying him for the next 5 games is a complete joke.

Using Johnson as an example of an inconsistent bowler, Zaheer as a good one and Sreesanth as a pathetic one:-

Performances in 2010:-

Zaheer:- 5,10,3,4,8,4,3,4,6 - 47 wickets in 9 games @ 21.97

Johnson:-5,1,2,10,1,2,5,3,0,9,2 - 40 wickets in 11 games @ 34.17

Sreesanth:- 2,2,2,4,2,0,4 - 16 wickets in 7 games @ 48.25

Sree's not inconsistent atm, He's just consistently ****. When he bowls well he doesn't tear down the opposition and when he doesn't bowl well, he goes for 5 an over.

Its not so easy to compare as they are palying in different conditions. sreesanth has been bowling on roads that too on the first day as we lose toss everytime,he has been bowling very well as he showe din the last test.

he's not been bowling well at all he does bowl a few jaffers in every innings but in overall scheme of things he has been poor barring the last innings.

Considering where Zaheer bowls, these figures are mindblowing.
Yep, Was equally good or only slightly worse compared to Steyn judging purely on 2010.

Now, I know I'd back Steyn way more to bowl better tomorrow and think he definitely is the best by a margin, especially because he has maintained that level for the last four years, but those figures don't lie. Zak's the clear 2nd best bowler in the world, IMHO.

Entering the extreme wishful thinking territory, I hope he does a Hadlee and peaks between 31 and 39. It won't happen but a man can dream.

yeah not with his fitness though if he quits odi's after the wc he might prolong his test career.

As good as Zaheer is and I am a big fan of his, I am not sure he was clearly the 2nd best in the last four years. I rated Asif higher than Zaheer. Asif was probably the closest to sTeyn in the last four years. In his final series in England he had reached his 100th wicker in his 20th test and seemed to be going great guns.

Yeah but Asif missed so many Tests with off-field issues etc. You got to take those into account if you are considering Zaheer's lack of fitness. Can't believe he only played 20 odd Tests.

I don't think he is talking about the last 4 years in regards to Zaheer though ,but in regards to Steyn.

Pakistan did have an 18 month period off test cricket though I agree Asif fitness was also almost Zaheer level and he was 5 years younger do't even get to the off field issues.

I meant second best. I just fixed it.
Steyn is the best bowler in the world by a margin because he has been maintaining a very high level of performance for the last 4 year.

Zaheer hit that level of performance for this year alone. I wasn't talking about Zaheer's last 4 years.
