Indian Domestic Season 2010-11

Just how good is Rohit Sharma? He's maintaining an average of 61, with that triple, and has scored yet another century. Very impressive, especially for one typecast as a T20/IPL specialist. Badrinath, though, continues to impress, without luck or support from the five (not so) wise men.

Vinay Kumar should be knocking on Test selection doors sooner than later, with wickets and runs this season.

Tiwary made a post in facebook not twitter, btw.

As for Sharma he is doing well this season ,very well in fact but Mumbai play on some of the flattest wickets in the country.

For his 60 average,Rahane is averaging near to 68 and i would think for the last few years Jaffer would be somewhere near abouts too.

Yes, big supporter of Rohit. He will be a gun.
He always had the talent ,but it was the temperament that was the issue.

Seeing him consistently score big and not give it away this season is a real positive sign.

Always mantained he should go back and play atleast 1/2 seasons of FC cricket before coming back into the Indian team and i think we should let him play atleast this full season before calling him back if we want too.

As a limited-overs player, Rohit should be a certainty. He's done well lately in ODIs, and is one of India's best T20 batsmen. Tests are still a season away. He's a more versatile batsman, verrsatile across formats, as long as he can consistently play a long innings.

Quarter finals are underway. A few performances to note, Munaf takes 4/87 off 26 as Railways slump to 241/8. Munaf has been having an excellent season, pretty much bowling either economically or with penetration, in every innings he has bowled. He has 20 wickets at 16.80 - he is not near the top wicket takers list as he has only played four games due to missing a few, for a reason I'm unsure of, and India ODI fixtures. However, this season should surely mean that he should, in future, be far preferred for a Test cap above the unproven likes of Unadkat and Yadav.

Karnataka bowl out Madhya Pradesh for 200. Two for Vinay Kumar, one for Mithun and three for Sreenath Aravind. Not much of note, here. Vinay continues to trudge on as a domestic stalwart, but will he ever be noticed for Test cricket, I'm unsure...

Rajasthan bowl out Mumbai for 252. 60s for Nayar and Rahane. 6/64 for Pankaj Singh, who is having a dream season. Although his early performances came in the Plate League (33 wickets at 19.09), he has shown here that he can bowl out the best batsmen in the Super League too.

With all the talk that Indian domestic pitches are flat, these pitches have all produced bowler-friendly results at the end of Day One. That is, with the exception of Haryana Vs Tamil Nadu, which has Haryana at 293/2. Sunny Singh and N Saini have centuries, with the latter unbeaten, and wickets went to Sunil Sam and R Ashwin. On the note of Tamil Nadu, Balaji has had a disappointing season - he has got through overs without injury and has often kept things tight, but not many wickets to show (10 wickets at 23.70 looks good, but not so good when you realise he opens the bowling and it has come in eight FC innings).

PANKAJ SINGH! What a 6-fer against Mumbai!

**** you selectors for ignoring him and Vinay Kumar.

Wtf is with Murali Kartik opening the batting by the way? Have I missed this all season?

Scored a 50 too!

Yeah I saw M.Karthik opening and clicked just to make sure it was him. I have no idea what he's done to become an opener.

Pankaj Singh really has been killing it along with Chahar. Had a match haul of 14 not long before this game too.

Pankaj Singh has not done too well before last season, tbf to the selectors and this year did take place in the Plate League. However, on the back of two strong seasons, especially if he can continue his form in this match (and the semis and final, though I doubt they will beat Mumbai) and then on to the Duleep Trophy, he should definitely be looking at Test consideration. It is annoying, the selectors pick these absolute rookies and here, you have a several season veteran, who is still in his mid 20s and is a giant of a man and from what I have heard, is not some sort of 115kph trundler, either.

I don't know if anyone in India is watching the games, but there is some good information on ICF from someone who appears to be watching the game. If this seems like advertising, feel free to remove the post...

Mithun getting hit. He is definitely trying to bowl quicker, unable to hot the 135 markso far, around 131-132 on an average, still has that big swinger, but doesn't seem to have got the away going delivery yet.

Vinay Kumar bowling around 127-128 kmph but bowling with a lot more control.

MP 64/1 in 15 overs.

The three MP medium pacers Sudhindra, Amit Sharma and Anand Rajan, are all 6 ft+, well built and look to be good bowlers.

Sudhindra is 125 kmph, Amit Sharma around the 128 kmph mark, but Anand looked the most impressive of the three.

Nice smooth action, uses a lot of shoulder in his delviery stride and was bowling 133-134 kmph and getting the ball to lift. This lad can move the ball either ways and looks to have a good future if nurtured properly. With some technical work on his action, I am sure he can add 4-5 kmph of pace to his bowling and with his ability to get the ball to move or jump off the track, he could prove to be a real darkhorse. Bowled a short yet highly impressive spell of 3 overs today. I will definitely follow him tomorrow to see how he does.

I hope selectors are watching this lad bowl. Looks better than a few other trundlers who get picked for Challenger Trophy teams or even India A sides.

For Karnataka, the left armer Arvind was the most impressive. Last season he was not able to hit even 125 kmph but hit 132-133 a couple of times today and was on an average 128-129 kmph. Has worked on his bowling and was the best K'taka bowler today (in fact has been the best bowler this season for K'taka).

Mithun was a little disappoitning. Was trying to bowl quick but was wayward.

Karnataka, with a lead, are in danger of getting knocked out, largely due to inept running between wickets and clueless batting. They had Uthappa and Pandey in the middle, but a bad call for a single and a mix-up run-out sacrificed Pandey, and now Uthappa is gone due to a freak catching chance. Both sides fielded well here.

Elsewhere, satisfaction with a first-innings lead has had Baroda bowling without Munaf Patel, and thus allowed Railways to score 366 runs and declare. Baroda don't have a very large target to chase, but little time left. Rajasthan will make it to the finals, either with a win or the lead. They've been all over Mumbai, with batsman Nayar bowling 47 overs and taking seven wickets, with a 60 already down. Rajasthan are vastly improved this season, and many attribute the Modi effect. While Deepak Chahar's phenomenal effort was well documented, the veteran Pankaj Singh has done the star turn here.

Yeah!!!!

Looking bad for them.

Have to say though MP bowled well.

Pandey run out was suicidal . Was looking good and is usually Karnataka's best batsmen in pressure situations.

Your thoughts on the MP batting? They were largely better in the second innings, and these three- Mohnish Mishra, Abbas Ali and Harpreet Singh, looked in good touch, though none converted their scores Clean strokeplay and smart pinching of gaps got them several quick runs. They've got their runs against what is a strong bowling attack here, with two seasoned veteran and two promising youngsters doing their bit.

Now Amit Verma is doing his bit for Karnataka, who are now at 87/4, and looks in good touch. He's found the gaps with ease, and has quickly moved on to 24 as of now.

MP have been shaken up. Jalaj Saxena, who's bowled quite a chunk in this game, was smashed around by Amit Verma and Stuart Binny. There was a dramatic sequence, where a short-legger dropped a sharp chance off Binny and Binny followed it up with a huge six, That over went for 17 runs. At present, there are just 73 runs left in under two sessions to cross.

Elsewhere, Rohit Sharma opened the batting and is unbeaten, smashing Pankaj Singh around. While MP have been patchy and erratic, Rajasthan have shown themselves as impressive (maybe) newcomers, with several young players contributing. This time, it's Ashok Meenaria with a century, on the back of centuries from Vineet Saxena and ex-Maharashtra Hrishikesh Kanitkar. Hrishi's old team, Maharashtra, which made the news for its big spending and improved training facilities, is now a total mess. Rajasthan, fresh from political wrangles, should know what not to do.

Didn't really see the MP batting .Just bits and pieces .
Don't really rate their batsmen much though before hand.

Was impressed by Amit Verma for Karnataka in the first dig.Looked good and solid.
Interesting he is doing well in the second innings too. Seems in pretty good touch ,though i think after the initial spell where the ball was swinging and bouncing a bit awkwardly it would have become easier to bat.

Not seeing the match though ,ATM.

Verma is trying really hard to score quick. This is in contrast to how cautious he was. Now Binny has fallen to a close-in catch off a spinner.

Vinay Kumar seems a better bet. Then again, with each rising seam bowler, think Irfan Pathan. Can they do even as much, let alone more, across as much time? Anyway, with a couple of games to finish, he'll finish 50 FC games and be a serious Test contender. He's massive, can force the pace a little, and with some expert guidance, add some extra pace. Both Pankaj and Vinay will be crucial in a scenario post-Sachin-Dravid-Laxman, when experienced players will be a better bet than unproven so-called promising youngsters (we're talking of Unadkat/Umesh/Mithun/Ojha/Tyagi here) for a full team. Both can get wickets the smart way and give it their all for their teams, and are also very capable without the ball, so they will be crucial in assembling a fully functional playing XI.
