I don't think Valdes's distribution is particularly good TBH (though he has turned into a very underrated goalkeeper and an excellent shot-stopper for Barcelona), often looks dodgy when he's closed down. Pique and Puyol rarely put him under pressure though.
Valdes > Casillas.

Casillas was brilliant for Madrid when they won the La Liga under Schuster.. I don't think Valdes has hit those heights yet. Casillas has been pretty dodgy recently, but has done the job for the Spanish NT.

Pretty easy for him to make these sorts of statements when he has Xavi and Iniesta running around in midfield tbh.
Don't really see why that's relevant? Given the current state of Barcelona I reckon there's a pretty good chance he knows what he's talking about. Whether Ferdinand is playing or not makes a big difference to United's possession skills.

That said, England's different. Pique wasn't really designed to deal with the kind of attacks and pitches you're likely to have to face here, the ideal defender is a bit more physical and not necessarily so good on the ball. It would be interesting to see how a team like Arsenal would play with someone like Samba at the back.

Given that none of Squillaci, Campbell, Adams, Keown are or were renowned for their passing prowess, I'd wager that it wouldn't make a considerable difference.

Yeah, but Arsenal don't play football like Barcelona. That myth was exploded when they met in the CL last season.

I honestly thought at the time allowing Pique to go back to Barca was a bad idea, as he was starting to show he had what it takes. Even though Evans was looking like he would be a future United star (Jonny, go watch some old video's, remind yourself what you can do, your becoming John O'Shea Jr at this rate), Pique still looked ahead of him. OK he's not your quintessential English centre half, but Ferdinand doesn't fit that mould either (better with the ball at feet, can pass and dribble out of defence, yet can still get a foot in).The fact Pique basically waltzed into the Barca starting line up suggests on the surface it was a bad move by Fergie to let him go, but then we don't know just how much Pique wanted to go back (Arse fans take note, if Cesc really wants to go back, you could face a similar situation).

Pub quiz question time (yes, we were that bored in work today, that someone based 300 miles away posed this teaser accross the revenue). Pique is one of 5 players to have played for Utd and Barcelona, name the other 4 (no googling - in fairness Pique was the least obv of the 5)

All done and dusted!

We in Manchester missed Blanc (was mentioned but we wern't sure, i volunteered Riccardo), rest of the country missed Cruyff and Pique (causing a bit of a debate whether Pique played in the league or not)

Mascherano is sitting on the bench ATM, would Cesc be a certain starter? You would think so, but then you would think Mascherano would be starting most games.

Reckon this thread's quiet because there's barely been any decent football on for ages. Should hopefully change soon, the league is due a big controversy or so at some point.

Anyways, happy hols and all to all.
