*Official* Third Test at the WACA

You are, he is the only matchwinning bowler you have. The trouble is nobody knows if he will do it again next week or revert to the buffoon of Brisbane.
172 test wickets in 40 matches.
played a handful of poor tests over the past 18 months.
hes an awesome bowler, if ur waiting for him to revert to brisbane as ur only chance of winning, ul be in for a long 3 weeks.

do your research.

At the end of the day, anyone saying Johnson wasn't the best bowler of either side was kidding themselves. Anderson's been fantastic, exceptionally consistent and he's a big part of why we've gotten to 1-0 up, but Johnson is the only man who can just tear everything to pieces in the space of half a session. If he fired at any stage it was always going to put us on the back foot - we just have to hope this is the only time we see this side of him.

this!

people were rubbishing him because they thought that it was so inconceivable that he would revert back to his best in so short a space of time, after being so out of sorts in brisbane.
no sane person ever doubted he was the BEST BOWLER ON EITHER SIDE. YES- BETTER THAN ANDERSON, BROAD AND TREMLETT- HANDS DOWN.

Johnson's a mercurial talent. Potentially the most devastating bowler on either side, yes. But he hadn't bowled like this for nearly two years.

Conversely we don't have one. Johnson and Steyn are the only two in world cricket right now.

anderson can open up a match at the start, and tremlett and broad can all take quick wickets and run through a couple of batsman, and swann (proabably the closest to 'matchwinning' you have)can do damage on a spinning pitch - he will be a handful in sydney- but yup, apart from steyn, johnson, and probably zaheer khan, there are no real matchwinning bowlers in world cricket.

Amir and Asif would say hi

(if you offered them enough money)

Holy hell that's big news about Ponting. But surely he would still play with a broken little finger? I thought Katich was playing with a broken finger in this series as well?

he got 5 wickets 3 tests ago in an innings against india, bowled very well.
he got 10 wickets and won man of the match 8 months ago ffs
he got 30 wickets in 6 tests last summer

you english have underestimated him grossly. at your own demise.

i said matchwinning bolwers not matchfixing bowlers!

but seriosuly, those two are right up there. huge pity for cricket fans about their sorry situation though. that boy amir was a delight to watch. and asif was just brilliant, a master. could have done some special things for their country with their primal talents. sad.

Yeah, that's pretty much where I see it - we've got a core of "good" players with specific roles, who do their jobs efficiently and consistently, without ever being genuine destroyers. They work as a unit, they combine well. Anderson nips a couple out early and Swann does what a spinner should be doing on day 5 on a wearing pitch. We don't have the omfg unstoppable force; and Flower identified this mind you; hence the construction and development of this settled core of players. Conversely the convicts don't have the settled structure - no frontline spinner, no overly consistent opening bowler, but they have this one bloke who can change a game situation almost instantaneously.

Looked a lot more impressive on the scorecard that he did on the pitch.

Difference this test is he looks like a bowler too.
